Men of War Review

Steve Butts on the IGN game site gives Men of War an overall rating of 8 but with several caveats. The game is “not for everyone. It's not even for every fan of real-time strategy.” And “The high level of challenge and the more realistic handling of combat goes against many of the current conventions of the real-time strategy genre.” But he concludes that “…there is a segment of the gaming public out there who is looking for exactly this kind of experience (well, maybe without the awful path finding) and for them, Men of War will be a revelation. It's like watching all your favorite war movies play out in front of your eyes. Is it tedious and hard as hell? You bet it is, but it offers a view of combat that's every bit as thrilling as the more accessible strategy games that dominate the sales charts.”

Daniel Shannon provides a detailed review of Men of War for the “GAMESPOT” blog. While calling the game complex and difficult, Shannon praises the game’s “well-crafted details that should make it especially appealing to history buffs”. Shannon concludes his review stating that the “steep learning curve alone will be enough to keep some players from enjoying everything that Men of War has to offer, but the reward for perseverance is a WWII campaign experience like no other game on the market.”
