Wednesday War Stories ~ Iron Ships & Iron Men at the Battle of Hampton Roads

Spotlight Article Graphic

"In some ways the game was frustrating; how could it not produce a clearly superior victor?" RockyMountainNavy, in Armchair Dragoons, has an interesting discussion of the classic "Monitor versus Merrimac" clash, and how that applies to wargaming. Check out what conclusion he reaches, reinforced by the comment: "No better description of the impact of the Battle of Hampton Roads on naval warfare exists than the response of the Royal Navy upon hearing of the battle."

Game: Eagles: Waterloo 1815

(e03)

Publisher: Columbia Games
Game Type: Card
Designer(s): Tom Dalgliesh
Search for this and related games with Noble Knight

Description:

The game recreates Napoleon's Waterloo campaign in 1815. Four battles can be played: Ligny, Wavre, Quatre Bras and Waterloo plus the full campaign including a fictitious battle of Charleroi. The Gold Edition has 300 cards with a total of 900 variants (Gold, Silver and Bronze). There are also Battle Decks with 60 or 120 cards for each battle representing the French, British, Dutch and Prussian regiments and leaders. The regimental uniforms and the portraits of the generals are historically accurate, providing the Napoleonic war buff with a detailed, graphical, order of battle for the Waterloo campaign. Card identities are printed in French, English, Dutch, or German depending on the nationality of the regiment. Published in 1995.
