Pat La Pella created this player aid to clarify special movement rules for the Japanese player for Amphibious Movement and Reinforcement beach landing hexes. Computer versions of the game show eligible hexes automatically when the Japanese player selects a unit for movement.

Here’s a two part Youtube video play through by Emphasison Thethe. This is the 1776 Carolina Campaign during the American Revolution. Birth of America is a grand strategic game where the player and computer player create orders and then the game automatically carries out the orders for both players simultaneously.

Birth of America Review

Kevin VanOrd presents this review on the GAMESPOT game review web site. While generally praising the game mechanics and features, the reviewer finds the graphics and sound lacking. His major objection is that the game is too hard for newcomers or casual gamers thus only a rating of 6.9 out of 10 (FAIR).

Metacritic gathered reviews for this grand strategic level computer war game and the 8 critics gave it a mixed rating of 71 out of 100. Four of the five users who weighed in gave it an 8.75 out of 10 but one user hated the game dropping the overall user rating to a 5.7 out of 10. As always, you’ll need to judge for yourself. On line reviews and video playthroughs are available on the internet.

Scott Parrino, frequent contributor to the Wargamer web site provides introductory remarks for this US colonial era strategic game. Scott provides some insight into the world of independent designer companies and the problems that can occur in the early days of a game’s publication. Eventually, production problems get resolved but early adopters may encounter problems.
