Historicon 2018: Historicon Comes Home

Bill found plenty to enjoy, given that "…this year’s program weighed in at a whopping 104 pages of which 57 were devoted to game listings."

Advance of the Reich: Breakout at Lozovenka Video Replay

You are surrounded and need to break through to your lines. You have a good number of infantry supported by a few mortars and tanks. Can you break through? YouTube poster MJL uses a “learn as you go” approach to get the Russians home in the “Attempted Breakout at Lozovenka” scenario. MJL presents a 17 part video of his unsuccessful operation illustrating many of the features found in the Squad Battles series from HPS Simulations including the importance of planning, the effect of terrain for cover and advancement, the strength of combined arms, the need for leader placement to rally troops and the will to advance over seeking cover.

Using a learn-as-you-go approach, MJL tries the “Heavy Tanks at Rossienie” scenario pitting Russian heavy tanks against a German medium tank contingent. This three part video is a preliminary introduction to the look and feel of the game system.
