Campaign Coordinator's Report 1994 By Jeff Williams Overall it has been a good year for the club with plenty of variety and enough campaigns to ensure several running each week. To give a few statistics. There were 32 registered campaigns for the year. 17 of these have finished, nine are in progress, four are still in planning, one has been cancelled and one is in recess. There were 19 involving miniatures, 6 board games, 5 role playing, 1 computer and one map campaign. Of the different periods ancients have made a comeback with 7 campaigns, of the rest 3 were Napoleonic's, 3 American Civil War, 3 Science Fiction, 6 fantasy, 4 WWII and 6 modern. To improve next years campaigns I have listed a number of problems that occurred along with possible solutions. Some inexperienced campaigners began campaigns that were either too big for them or they couldn't get the balance right and so they couldn't finish them. I encourage players that haven't run a campaign before to ask one of the more experienced campaigners for advice when setting up the campaign. They should ask someone who is not going to participate to ensure a balanced view. Some players are unreliable and don't turn up. Always run a two sided campaign with teams of two players who will cover for each other when one is absent. Some umpires are unreliable. Next year I won't allow unreliable umpires to register without close supervision and setting of targets. We experienced some problems with concurrent campaigns. It is often difficult for a player to participate in a battle and give orders for another campaign simultaneously. I will attempt to plan the spacing a little better next year. On the positive side there were many well run, balanced and enjoyable campaigns this year. Ancients have revived with DBM as the mainstay but with Norm's or Darryl's rules for those who want more depth. We do need someone to perfect a set of rules for large scale modern land warfare using battalion sized forces. Next year Brian Ross is trying a large scale WWII scenario using a variation of Stan's rules which he has written.* The campaign awards are to be tallied and presented on Saturday evening at Maelstrom. A new award this year is for the best campaign of the year. A survey form will be distributed before Maelstrom to determine this award. In conclusion I am keen to hear of any suggestions for improving the coming campaign season.
