From: Torben Mogensen Subject: [eurobrit] 55BC variant Hi all, I have been working on a variant of Britannia that starts already at Caesars invasion of Britannia in 55 BC. I have described it below and want to hear what you think about it. Torben 55 BC variant of Britannia ========================== Setup: Starting areas (one army in each): Belgae: (10) Downlands, Essex, Kent, Lindsey, N. Mercia, S. Mercia, Norfolk, Suffolk, Sussex, Wessex. Brigantes(7): Bernicia, Cheshire, Cumbria, Lothian, March, Strathclyde, York. Caledonians(3): Caithness, Hebrides, Orkneys. Picts(5): Alban, Dalriada, Dunedin, Mar, Moray. Welsh(8): Avalon, Cornwall, Devon, Dyfed, Gwent, Gwynedd, Hwicce, Powys. 12 Roman raiders (must raid) and 4 Belgae in the English Channel. Notes: The 4 Belgae appear at the start of the Belgae turn. If there are less than 4 available Belgae, only these appear. The Belgae must land on an area bordering the English Channel, i.e., they can neither stay at sea nor move to another sea area before landing. One turn (turn 0) is played before the standard turn 1. The following points are scored during turn 0: Romans: 1 per area occupied after combat but before the mandatory withdrawal. Welsh: 1 per Roman army killed. Belgae: 2 per Roman army killed. At end of turn 0, the following points are scored for occupying areas: Belgae: 1/2 per English area. Welsh: 1 per Welsh area, 1/2 per English area. Brigantes: 1 per area. Picts: 1 per area. Caledonians: 1 per area. Turn 1 changes: 15 Romans appear in the English channel, replacing any surviving raiders. The other nations continue with the armies that survive turn 0 (i.e., ignore the standard setup). The Belgae gain Boudicea (leader) at the start of their turn (if there are any Belgae left at that time). Romans gain 3VP for killing Boudicea (in turn 1 or 2). Historical notes: This variant is intended to capture the time from Caesars punitive expeditions to Britannia in 55 and 54 BC up to the invasion in 43 AD under Claudius. The 4 Belgae that enter from the channel in turn 0 represent Commius' Atrebates who entered Britannia in 50 BC. The game doesn't capture the inner strife during and after Caesars invasion among the tribes that collectively form the Belgae nation in Britannia. I have always felt that the Icenians revolt led by Bodicea in AD 60-61 was too important to ignore in the game, so I have added her as a Belgae leader in turn 1. -------------------------- eGroups Sponsor -------------------------~-~> Create your business web site your way now at Bigstep.com.
