From: "Clay Cooper" Subject: [BCML] Mexican American War Battle Cry Variant Ideas I'd appreciate any thoughts that the group may have on the following ideas which I came up with today (and obviously have not playtested). Thanks. Clay MAW BC Variant: US Infantry: Takes 5 hits to eliminate (elite status) Mexican Infantry: Takes normal 4 hits to eliminate Mexican Artillery: Inferior to US Artillery, especially at close range (no canister) Much more immobile than US artillery, so must make a die roll to allow them to be moved once they are selected for action this turn (roll a single die: cav. or crossed sabers symbol = success). If unsuccessful, unit cannot fire either. Mexican Cavalry: Was reluctant to close with the enemy whenever it had the chance. Must make a die roll test to move adjacent to any US unit or to battle (roll a single die: cav. or crossed sabers symbol = success). Will roll 3 dice in battle if successful with test. Must test to battle even if it starts the turn adjacent to a US unit. US Cavalry: Will roll 4 dice in battle Musket fire is: 3-2-1 for all troops Artillery fire is: 4-3-2-1 for U.S., 3-3-2-1 for Mexicans For non-adjacent targets, the "crossed sabers" die result is ignored for casualties. Firing and sniping at leaders is still resolved as per ACW Battle Cry. Artillery on a hill adds 1 hex to its max. range, as per ACW BC. Mexican command deck will only contain one "Leadership" card due to their generally poorer commanders. The Mexican commander's allowed command card hand total will also generally be less than his US counterpart (US = 5, Mexican = 3 or 4) US card deck contents will be per normal ACW BC. All Out Offensive card will become move & battle with up to 4 units in any one sector of the battlefield. Victory conditions will be such that battlefield objectives and eliminated enemy units will determine the winner of the game at the end of a certain no. of game turns, per the specific scenario rules. Victory will not be totally dependent on no. of units lost, like in ACW BC.
