From: "D. Holte" Subject: Wave of Terror - Variable Victory Conditions This is an update to my variant for WAVE OF TERROR. Added is a rule for 10SS and 11th Panzer Division entry. There are also some minor text changes but nothing significant. There is a strong indication that the unit exit conditions may be a little too tough for the German player. I'd like to have some feedback if anyone's tried it. I should have a somewhat historical U.S. setup finished very soon. Wave of Terror [Command #41] - Variant Victory Conditions =========================== -Based on the system used in SPI's WACHT AM RHEIN Victory levels will be identified as below: 1-Strategic or Decisive Victory 2-Substantive or Median Victory 3-Marginal Victory Victory Objectives Used in the German Plans (In order as they appear in the Plans below.) Spa (E2410) St. Vith (E3119) Bastogne (E2033) Marche (W4023) St. Hubert (W3931) Rochefort (W3626) Dinant (W2620) Verviers (E2205, E2206, E2305) Mounshau (E3506) Echternach (E4040) Diekirch (E3238) Wiltz (E2733) Neufchateau (E1240) Houffalize (E2126) German Variable Reinforcments At the beginning of each turn, the German player rolls one die. If he rolls a six, the die is rolled again and he consults the following chart: 1-2: All units of the 10SS Panzer Division enter the game from the East board edge. 3-4: All units of the 11th Panzer Division enter the game from the East board edge. 5-6: No variable reinforcements available this turn. Before the start of the game, the German player secretly chooses one of the following victory plans: 1. Historical Plan 2. Operation Liege-Aachen 3. Operation Luxembourg 4. Operation Liege-Luxembourg 5. Spoiling Attack. The chosen victory plan is only revealed to the American player at the end of the game when victory is determined. HISTORICAL PLAN German Victory 1-Exit at least fifteen combat units off the northern map edge (beyond the Meuse). Seven of these must be Tank units. Also, hold the town of Spa with at least one combat unit at the end of the game. 2-Have at least fifteen combat units in the area west or north of the Meuse, Seven of which must be Tank. Also, hold the Town of Spa at the end of the game. 3-Have at least one unit in each of four of the following towns at the end of the game: Spa, St. Vith, Bastogne, Marche, St. Hubert, and/or Rochefort. U.S. Victory 1- No German units north of the Meuse and west hex row E1500. Also, no German units have exited the map. 2-No German units at the end of the game in ANY of the following towns: Spa, Bastogne, Dinant, Marche, St. Hubert, and Rochefort. 3-Any other result which does not fulfill German victory conditions. OPERATION LIEGE-AACHEN German Victory 1-Have at least one unit in each of the Towns of Verviers, Spa, and Monschau at the end of the game. Also, exit at least fifteen units (of which seven must be Tank) from the north map edge WEST of hex row E2600. 2-Same as above, but exit one tank unit from the north map edge WEST of hex row E2600. 3-Have at least one unit in each of the Towns of Verviers, Spa, and Monschau at the end of the game. U.S. Victory Exactly the same as in the Historical Plan. OPERATION LUXEMBOURG German Victory 1-Have at least one unit in each of the Towns of Echternach, Diekirch, Wiltz, Bastogne, and Neufchateau at the end of the game. In addition, exit at least fifteen combat units (of which seven must be Tank) off the south map edge WEST of hex row E3644. 2- Same as above, except exit three Tank units off the board from the same area. 3-Have at least one unit in each of the Towns of Echternach, Diekirch, Wiltz, Bastogne, and Neufchateau at the end of the game. U.S. Victory Exactly the same as the Historical Plan. OPERATION LIEGE-LUXEMBOURG German Victory 1- Fulfill the Decisive victory conditions of Operation Liege-Aachen AND Operation Luxembourg. 2-Fulfill the Median victory conditions of Operation Liege-Aachen AND Operation Luxembourg. 3-Fulfill any single German victory condition of Operation Liege-Aachen OR Operation Luxembourg without fulfilling the 1st or 2nd victory conditions of Operation Liege-Luxembourg. U.S. Victory Exactly the same as the Historical Plan. SPOILING ATTACK German Victory Have at least one unit in each of the Towns of Monschau, St. Vith, Bastogne, Houffalize, Diekirch, and Echternach at the end of the game. In addition, destroy at least SIXTY U.S. units by the end of the game. U.S. Victory 1-None (There is no Decisive/Strategic victory possible.) 2-No German units in ANY of the towns listed under the German Victory conditions for this Case. 3-No German units in either Bastogne, Spa, and Houffalize. Any other result in this case is a draw. I have created a sheet of cards for use with the above variant conditions in Word 7.0 ('95) format.
