Had a computer that didn't crash when I ran the game 3. Had a computer where the game wasn't a slow wreck...though it was choppy at times... ------system specs------------ PIII 700r 256 megs of pc 133 SDRAM GEforce3 Videocard Cable Internet Connection ------------------------------- Okay...so on to the review. Overall The game seems nice. It runs pretty smooth and I was infantry and a pilot. I watched tank battles from the air and the day turn from evening to night and back to morning. That's about 6 hours of play I'd guess. Getting from one place to another is a HUGE task. Infantry have to walk or ride on a tank. Walking between battles is just stupid you'll spend hours. However riding is better, but can take a long time. My tip to you is to spawn where you know there is action, or follow one of the missions so that you'll end up getting into some action. Today I was in a few major battles as an infantryman. I died 3 times I killed 8 Germans I captured 6 capture points in chokepoint cities which lead to the capture of Dinant. The battle for Dinant really showed how cool the system can be. There were dogfights in the sky, tank battles on the ground, and infantry rushing through the city streets. It was awesome. That said let me mention some bugs. 1. When you capture a building the radio table (capture point) goes away. So if the other team captures it, you can't recapture it...that is totally lame in my opinion. 2. When you dismount from a tank, sometimes you can get thrown into strange places. I dismounted from a tank onto a landmass next to a canal. My dismount threw me across the turret and into the canal some 20 feet away! That's weird... Infantry Review: Fun to play. Not really a FPS because it takes three things to shoot: 1. ready weapon 2. aim (yes this is a whole seperate key and step) 3. shoot That is completely stupid to me though...I don't know why the game simulates the bending of elbows and looking down a sight...It's cool and all, but I don't like it. Capturing buildings is a rush. You can't beat it. Getting killed totally sucks. Believe me you never want to die in this game, unlike Quake, et.al you don't just respawn in a good place, you end up having to make a trek to get back to the action and that is no fun at all. Plane Review Hard to take off Hard to control lower framerates than with infantry and tanks I don't know what else to say. I flew for an hour and never saw 1 plane. The airbases were so far back from teh front it was worthless. Though I saw some good furballs from the ground, I didn't have the patients to just fly and fly and fly to get into 1 fight. Visibility from the planes sucks. I suppose this is accurate. Flight model seems accurate if a little over emphasised ----------------Other people's complaints-------------------- 1. Servers have been up and down all day Server is down as I write this (sidenote) 2. Lag is awful 3. Tanks are too slow compared to real life 4. "I've been on for an hour and haven't seen any enemies!!!" This is the number 1 complaint (sidenote) 5. CRS should have done this and should have done that 6. Framerate bites on wildly good computers (P4s w/ 256 ram, etc) ------------------------------------------------------------------- Recommendation? -wait till the weekend and see what people think then... All MMORPGs are terrible for the first month or two, then they get better, but this has some inherent flaws that I don't mind, but others are really upset with (controls etc) Hope that helps
