From: "Crowley,Steve,S" Subject: Re: Opinions wanted & a (long!) review - 3W's "Give Me Liberty" This is 3W game of the War of Independence on a strategic level. Can't remember how many scenarios were included - I think just the Big One. Played one game of this one and got rid of it. Movement on the map is via boxes over communication lines viz A House Divided. I liked the map but was in a minority in our group on this. Emphasis is on leaders with a player rolling on a command table giving a number of moves for that turn - to the extent that the other side may get to activate instead! I like this idea. Combat is fairly simple with a unit firing on another unit with a hit causing a step loss. Units are quality rated from militia to veteran - the latter having more chance of hitting in combat. Again I like this simple approach. Leaders may react to moving enemy stacks and the Traitors (err sorry ... the Americans) may runaway before a field battle. It is this latter rule which makes it so frustrating for the British. For those not familiar with the subject, America is big - very big and it's very difficult to pin the American army down. This is as it should be but you should be able to force them to fight for some political objective but this will only happen if the US allows it. Frankly, playing the Brits is a bore. This may be a good simulation but as a game we just didn't get on with it. I got the feeling it's the same old 3W story - good enough components, an interesting situation and a good basic system. What is lacking is the detailed development which would turn it into a winner. Best regards Steve Crowley
