Author's Introduction It's been twelve years since I started working on this project. This is the sixth release of the program in so many years. For those who are unfamiliar with WARS, the name stands for Wargaming Analysis and Recommendation System. It is a radical ap- proach to wargaming that has previously been limited to government sponsored programs. The approach takes combat to the 1:1 scale including individual crewmen, soldiers, and vehicles. Everything that occurs in the program is based on the physics, ballistics, and logistics that occur in real life. To model the effects in a scenario, the program takes some 4,800 factors into account. The result is a wargame that is the most accurate and complete wargame available to the public outside of a military simulation. The program though, often exceeds military simulations and wargames in both accuracy and performance. This release includes the following additions: - Support for modern combat. The program includes support for composite, laminated, reactive, and Chobham armor with the same accuracy used in previous versions. Support for modern shells has also been expanded, inclusion of nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare, ATGM, helicopters, fire control systems, infra-red and image intensifier vision systems, and radar systems. - More than 175 actions. - Expanded artillery control and fire missions. - Support of group orders where the program handles orders for squads and vehicles as a group. This is the equivalent of turning control to the computer thereby allowing control over a much larger group of soldiers. - More multi-user capabilities. - Detailed support of bridges, obstructions, and terrain usage. - Increased accuracy for intermediate and terminal ballistic results. - Increased AAR (After Action Reports) for both scenario grading and in-action reports for multi-command scenarios. - Intelligence Reports indicating the first time, last time, and location of all enemy targets in the scenario. - Support of soldier and vehicle insignia. - Increased support for spare parts, repairs, and replacements. - Support for theater conditions. - Increased accuracy for diseases based on physical effects. - Support for program generated vehicle and dummy counters. - Scenario Generator : a utility to convert scenarios from squad and platoon based games to WARS.
