The 8th issue of this very good French magazine bring us the game LA CAMPAGNE DE GETTYSBURG, 1863 (GETTYSBURG CAMPAIGN for those two or three of you that refuse to understand THAt french) : this is not a game a la A HOUSE DIVIDED as some of you already told us in a previuos message, but, if you really wish to compare it, more to the COA Civil War campaign series. I do not like the map (under their standard, I think) but I understand that it is usefull : probably somethink like the COA maps could have been much better. The counters are very good (please note that the french term LEURRE means DUMMY) with big icons on the back and the usual two FLAGS on the front. As a bonus you will also find some counters to play a new scenario (BATTLE OF WISSEMBOURG : 4 Aug 1870 between Frenches and Germans) of their miniature rules KEPI ROUGES (published in VV nr.5) : instead of miniatures you may use those "counters" depicting soldiers seen from the top. I find this system really super to introduce wargamers to table top games without having to buy miniature first or been obliged to search some friends who have them ready. I hope that they will continue this good habit with other rules. (please also note that VV nr.7 also had a scenario and similar counters for another battle : GRINGOS opposing mexicans and , you bet it, americans) As main miniature scenario they propose THE BATTLE OF TOULOUSE (10 April 1814) between British (led by Wellington) and French. You will find maps to reproduce the battle, photos of miniatures, flags to be cutted and used for your 15 mm miniatures. The second scenario is a VIKING attack (rules DBM for 15 mm) You have then some "analyses" of the following games : - WE THE PEOPLE - BLACK WEDNESDAY - STORM OVER ARNHEM and brothers - etc. The main feature of the magazine is based on CHARLEMAGNE and his period (and this means that we will have a game on this subject next time) For the computers followers they examined - BATTLEGROUNG : GETTYSBURG - TWENTY WARGAME CLASSICS - BATTLEGROUND : ARDENNES (tactical suggestions to play it) And we have finally the usual parade of miniature, some books to buy, etc. GREAT ISSUE I hope that this kind of short news may be of interest : if not please tell me and I will shut ... but if you have any questions please ask Ciao Pietro ******************************** * Pietro Cremona * "Old hand" Wargamer * Cesena (FO) - ITALY * E-Mail : asterix@linknet.it * Phone : ++ 39 547-335121 ********************************
