This comes from correspondence with John Schettler: * * * * * * Q. What is the empty box in the North Sea above the At Sea box? A. It was meant for a Tactical landing box allowing the Allies to attack at the dike hex of Westkapelle. Its use was more intended for the system when combined with other games like Pas De calais, etc. The GERMANS may also use rule 4.91 to move units to this box with barges. If they implement this rule they pay for it with CPs as a "Tactical Landing" on the Strategic Orders chart. (Not an invasion). Note that Exclusive rule 4.91 doubles the normal range for tac landings from 6 hexes to 12 hexes when the Germans are using Barges. Q. How many Tactical Sealift points can the Allies spend each turn? A. As there are no Invasions in "Tide of Fortune" (6.44) The Allied player has to use Command points directly to pay for a Tactical landing...as he does for all Strategic Operations. There are no Tactical Sea lift points allocated, but these landings can be accomplished under rule 6.45 by Paying CPs and declaring a "Tactical Landing" or by using Exclusive Rule 3.8 "Buffalos." Any time a Buffalo counter is used to traverse any all sea hex, the Allied player must declare a "Tactical Landing" and pay for it using CPs as a Strategic Order. Q. What are the Beachead, Mulberry, E-Boats, U-Boats and Reserve 5 counter used for? (the latter not used in any scenario) A. These were generic counters included in the mix as part of all the Westwar games. But some will not be used as there are no sea invasions in Tide of Fortune. (They are used in Pas De Calais and To the Far Shore). Q. Why is there a separate US/British Support Track and no separate US/British markers? A. British and US support are tracked separately. They were supposed to put in a little British flag. Just use any spare counter. Q. Can the Allies use Ferries [4.9]? A. NO...This is an Exclusive German Army Rule. (But the Allies have the Tac Landing abilities described above) Q. [6.45] May units making Tactical Landing use coastal hexes to move through? If yes, Mines [4.7] are not very useful since they can only be placed in All-sea hexes (or maybe they can also be placed in Coastal hexes). A. Only the initial hex of origin and the final hex of landing may be coastal hexes in a Tac Landing operation. All other hexes of the route must be traced through all sea hexes. (So the Allies cannot creep along the coastline to bypass German mines) Q. [9.52] Must artillery be adjacent or simply in range of a target to undertake Special Demolition? A. The Artillery must be adjacent. (The activity is actually carried out by engineers, not gunfire) * * * * * * ===== Benoit Other home address: benoitl33@videotron.ca Work: blarose@sgfqc.com __________________________________________________________ Lèche-vitrine ou lèche-écran ? magasinage.yahoo.ca
