For the archive: Can you activate the same unit in both Action Segments? The rules clearly say no, but then go on to list numerous examples of units doing so, as well as having rules that assume they can, like the ROF rule. So which is it? *The answer is no. However, the game does work fine if you choose to play it this way (allowing the same unit to be used in both segments). Note that Melee combat and firing with the same unit is allowed. OK. There are several reasons why I was uncertain. First, both the Action example on page 4 and Combat Example on page 9 has units taking actions in both action segments. I take it both these examples are in error. Or have I overlooked something? *The examples should show the units to be "different" units, not the same ones. Second, the Rate of Fire rule on page 14 says the ROF is "per impulse phase, not per segment. Thus an artillery unit that has a ROF of 4 could fire twice in each segment." This also seems to be at odds with the prohibition for activating the same unit twice. Did I miss something? *Twice meaning, firing two times in the first and second segments for a total rate of 4 per impulse. Exception to the rule. How is this exception handled? Can all units with a ROF of 2 or more be activated in both segments? Or only units with a ROF of 4? *Units with a RPF of 2 or 4 By the way, do you have to pay MPs for EACH fire, or just once to fire in a segment. *once The rules say the ROF is "per inpulse, not segment (tanks excepted)? Does this mean tanks can fire up to its ROF in a segment, but not be activated twice in an impulse? *yes Another thing I am a bit uncertain about. On page 5: "When a hex is attacked with a MG, all units not hit are automatically suppressed. If there is no hit on the infantry unit, but a modified roll of 10 or less occurs, the target is suppressed." These two sentences seem to contradict each other. One possible interpretation is that the first case applies only if someone was hit in the hex, and the second if no one was hit. Is that right? *Yes, that is exactly right. A question on opportunity fire, just to be certain: If a unit is fired at by opportunity fire, is it suppressed REGARDLESS of the result of the fire? That's what the rule says, I know, I just wanted to make sure. *Yes Some more questions on opportunity fire: Can units gang up to fire opportunity fire, or do they fire singly? *Single Opposing units can only make one opportunity fire. Is this per segment, per impulse or per turn? *Per turn I take it units firing opportunity fire have to spot like normal people. If the unit fails its spotting roll, is it considered to have made its one opportunity fire? *Yes, but if the spot roll fails on that moving unit, it may try again on another since it had not fired Op fire. A unit moves into a hex. It is fired on by opportunity fire. After the fire is resolved, can another unit fire opportunity fire on it before it moves another hex? *If the unit could see the moving unit before it had ended its movement, otherwise, no. The rules say up to 4 units can fire together, but the infantry fire strength determination table only list up to three units. What is the fire strength of four infantry units firing together? *Oops, should say 3 units. Speaking of obscure references, the sequence of play says you can activate up to four units, or "all units of a type". This is mentioned nowhere else in the rules, where it is repeated that you can only activate four units per segment. Is this reference in error? If not, how do you define what units are of "the same type"? Are tanks a type, or do are all tanks of a certain model a type, for example? *That is bad wording. I simply mean four different units. Ignore Type. The rules talk of modifiers to the blast roll. What modifiers are these? *Probably modifiers for terrain What is the blast rate of the 37mm gun that you added to some Whippets as an addendum? *3 Another question on spotting: Is spotting done before or after you spend the MPs for firing? That is, would a unit that failed to spot its target still have used up its MPs for firing? *no mvh Elias --- Elias Nordling telephone: +46-8-648 09 62 Hasselquistvagen 25a 2tr mobile: +46-70-175 00 02 S-121 46 Johanneshov e-mail: elias@nordling.nu Sweden homepage: http://elias.nordling.nu
