Joseph Miranda - 10:09pm May 1, 2001 PST (#2600 of 2602) The Volunteers column of the Boer Reinforcement Table only has "1" results, but there are only commando-sized FV units available. What to do? The middle three FV units are 1-9 cornetcies. Concerning the first DRM on the Bombardment Table, is it actually +1 for each attacking Bombardment qualified unit, or each additonal unit? For each (not additional). Note this means the only way to get a Counterbattery result is for the defender to have a bombardment qualified unit himself. If an enemy fortification is vacated during combat, can the attacker occupy it with advancing units, or is it destroyed? Automatically destroyed. See 23.5. Mainly because the barbed wire would face the wrong way if captured, so you can not use it. David Cann - 02:57pm May 3, 2001 PST (#2603 of 2608) Boer War question: In the Political Point Changes table (p. R18), I wondered about the number of political points that should be awarded for Boer occupation of towns in Cape Colony, Natal, etc. It says +1 per hex, but there is note which says "(drop fractions)". I'm not sure what that refers to. Is that an error? The same note is present under the Boer and British end of turn phase. If that is a typo that is meant to be +1/2 or +1/3 per hex? David Cann - 04:06pm May 3, 2001 PST (#2604 of 2608) One more play through with the same results. I set up the British defense of Natal back to the Tugela river up to the mountains at the OFS border. On turn 1, the Boers smashed through the towns north of the Tugela. The Boers also took control of the weakly defended border towns in Rhodesia, Bechuanaland, and Cape Colony. During the British half of turn 1, instead of reinforcements I built up fortifications along the Tugela, and beefed up the militia in the remaining towns that were susceptible to attack. By turn 2 however, the Boers were able to smash through the Tugela river defenses and pick up more towns with the end result of pushing the British Politcal Index to the Low range. Each turn, the -1 Political Points for each Boer controlled town realy kills the British. There are at least a half dozen towns that can be taken without much difficulty in Rhodesia, Bechuanaland, and Cape Colony. Without reinforcements, those lost points per turn really knocks the Brits out of the game. I beginning to think the -1/hex political point cost for towns must be a typo. Anyone else have a British strategy that is more effective? Joseph Miranda - 04:57pm May 3, 2001 PST (#2605 of 2608) It should be Boers get +1/2 per other town they occupy and British lose -1/2 per other town that is Boer occupied (drop fractions), as is surmised here. This was something that got changed several times in playtest and you can see how this ended up on the charts.
