-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steve Lea - 02:32pm Sep 14, 2003 PST (#172 of 173) I have a couple of questions relating to the rules for "Pavia", and would be grateful if anyone could assist. Firstly - I assume it is possible for French reinforcements to temporarily violate stacking - is this correct? Secondly, the rules for artillery/arquebus fire seem a litte muddled (at least to me). I think I am correct in saying that arquebus fire is purely defensive - it only occurs during the opposing players melee combat phase as a response to an ememy unit moving adjacent to an arquebus unit and attacking; is that right? The rules also stat that artillery unit can either fire grapeshot or bombard and, later, that those which fire grapeshot in response to an enemy unit attacking them "... cannot bombard during the Firearms Combat Phase." Does that mean that they cannot bombard in the Firearms Combat Phase of their own sides next turn; or is all fire conducted during the other sides turn, ie. French fire in Imperialist turn and vice versa; or has this passage been mis-translated? Any help with these would be gratefully appreciated. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dan Cicero - 10:56am Sep 22, 2003 PST (#173 of 173) Eagerly Awaiting: Lobositz (COA), Dawn of the Rising Sun (COA), Harpoon Naval Review 2003 (COA) Lee: Sorry about the delay getting back to you. I'm usually a lot better about these things... Regarding the French and overstacking, as long as they're set up in their set-up areas, I would think they could overstack, but would have to conform to the stacking limits thereafter. Regarding arquebus fire, you are correct. An arquebus takes a long time to load and fire, so they fired once and then it was "bun butts and bayonets" from there. They fire defensively and then move to the Melee Combat Phase. With respect to grapeshot, you're right: the rules are a little muddled... Artillery units that fire grapeshot during the Artillery Fire Phase cannot bombard also. Firing artillery -- regardless of what it's loaded with -- is a once-a-turn event. Hope this clears up your questions. Post a recap of your game. I'd be interested to hear what you think of it. Dan
