PC - Oct 30, 2004 12:16 pm (#130 Total: 134) Consim Q and A Before I got to the end here and found the official q and a --never feels right!-- I was making my own while reading through the posts. So here is that. ---- Consim World Lightning War: Midway Q and A Play summary: 1) Both players play cards back and forth. 2) Resolve card text as each card is played that is not "After Battle" 3) Repeat 1 and 2 until both players pass in succession. 4) Determine/resolve outcome of attack 5) Resolve "After Battle" text -Note that you might wish to play two cards of a particular type. For example, your opponent plays a Tactics card and you have none to cancel it. You play a leader whose text says "Discard enemy Tactics card". Then play another leader (discarding your first one) which has a better combat strength or other effect. -Only the last card played of each type will have an effect on the post battle situation. When a card is played is vital. For example, LT. CMDR. THACH only has a combat value of 1, but he will make the Japanese player discard a committed Zero. So, maybe you launch a small USN strike early in the game with no real chance of success. When you think the IJN player has played out all his Leader cards, you play Thach. His 1 combat point may not be enough to win you the battle, but discarding a Zero early in the game can be huge. -The idea is that if you have a Tactics card in play, I can play a Tactics card of my own which discards the one you played. Then you can play a different Tactics card from your hand, discarding mine. The idea is that there can only be one card of each type in play at any time. -If you have no Force Cards on the board, then you can't use any Action Cards. Q: Supposing that the Enterprise has been sunk earlier in the game and I choose in a later turn the Draw Option. If one of the cards drawn was a Force card that was dependent on the Enterprise still being in play, do I discard it leaving eight cards in my hand or am I allowed to draw another card to make the hand a full nine cards? A: You keep all cards drawn. If a card is Dependent on a card that is not in play, the dependent card cannot be played. Things to remember: a) You can only defend (or attack) with forces on the table. At the end of a battle, any forces engaged go back in your hand. (Nice mechanic this, I can almost hear the ground crews working.) b) You can always play an event card in battle. If one is already in play, from either side, it is discarded. c) Event card effects (other than battle +/-) are resolved immediately unless they specify "after battle". d) Midway's text is in effect at all times (not just when engaged).
