From: "Sandra de Scorraille" Subject: AZURE WISH Bruno de Scorraille Hello every body, here are news for THE GREAT WAR. 1) Here are the 2 missing (in the game components) FAST battle charts, Trench War (Excel files). 2) Erratas & Questions : # : The 1914 Grand Scenario setup for Serbia, english rules, has "may appear in September" after the Fortress Belgrade, 3-4-3 INf corps. It is a "translation" mistake.... : the right sentence is "it may leave the Serbian fortress from September 14". explanation : the Serbian garrison corps is in the Belgrade fortress in August and can't leave it. From September, it may leave freely. # : What happens when a fleet loses its base to ground troops? If it moves, is it a sorty which could cause a naval battle ? No, just change and go to the nearest port in the same sea. No matter. # : What about if immoble coastal guns are overrun ? destroyed # : What is the significance of the weather symbol in the Congo (and elsewhere) ? No care... (old rule) # : If Italy breaks through the Alps into Bavaria, it seems that they are not allowed to enter. Is this correct? They cannot attack Switzerland either ? If Italy invades Bavaria or Switzerland, and if the "French" and "Italian" West front join together, the French front is the left part and the Italian the right part. This case is almost very rare ! # : Limetation on attacks by front: Does movement into an empty, enemy hex count as an attack? If not, what if the defender is capable of defending the hex (by above rule)? I think that if the hex is defended OR if the Attacker breackthrough from this empty hex, in both cases it is considered as an "official attack". If you already did your 2 attacks, you can't no more breackthrough from it. If you enter an empty hex and the Defender goes in and there is an involontary battle, it does not count (if you are over your 2 battles). # : Must the attacker reinforce a battle to meet his obstinancy requirement ? Even out of the GHQ or another army ? If the general may act so to reinforce, yes. # : Rule 60 D&E - shouldn't these 'bonuses' be negative? YES !!! You are right, of course all these bonus had been inverted. It is a mistake, easy to detect. Thank you ! # : Can revolts generated by events (nationalist agitation) be suppressed by a 'restore order' action? No. You have to send units, and roll a test. # : does it matter if they are in Europe? Revolt may reduce incomes. # : 74-e Need the strosstrupen be the engaged unit in order to generate an encircling battle, or does it just have to be present ? It has to be engaged to generate an enrcircle battle. # : 93-e I'm still troubled by enemy sea modifier here. Does this apply if either player controls the sea or is the enemy the player with the lower (or perhaps higher) contact value? "enemy sea" : if you go in mission in a sea is controlled by the other side. i.g. : the German fleet goes in "RAID" to the Channel (Allied controled sea), there is a +1 bonus to the Naval Encounter Test. # : Further, how are contacts to be handled in cases where there are many missions occuring at once in the same sea ? If there are several missions at once in the same sea, do first the "highest" in value : control > raid > patrol > transport. Only 2 fleets (per side) may be involved in a bttle (3 fleets if you control the sea). A victorious (or undefated) fleet may be re-engage in another battle. # : 95 After Round 5, there are no further naval night rounds ? Yes, no more. # : Do additional (ie hindenburg) fortresses count as national for NW adjustment? What if they are in a home country? You only get NW adjustment when you conquer or loose national fortresses (Hindenburg : wherever it is). # : English Admrl. Troubridge was left out of the set up. Where does he start ? No real use, I'm not sure, but I can replace a dead admiral or be used if Austria surrenders and gives her fleet to Allies. # : Fr. Legion has +1 firepower on the back. Should this be removed ? In fact maybe "yes", but in use keep it at +1 at back to avoid problem when you are playing and contestations ! # : All the Italian 3-4-3s should have 2-3-3 on the back ? Some have 3-4-3. Really ?... You have good eyes !!! Yes back 2-3-3. # : The Italian 6-7-4[E] has a +2 Firepower on the counter, but the corps improvement chart shows 3 marked boxes. Which is correct, and if the +2, what is the cost to improve ? The counter is right ! Price is 15 EP. # : Should the Russian 6-6-4[E] Czech legion have a +1 Firepower on the back ? Same answer as the French Legion. In fact maybe "yes", but in use keep it at +2 at back to avoid problem when you are playing and contestations ! # : ERRATA !!! : Here is the 1st errata of the ENGLISH RULES, we notice. There was a mistake in the traduction in the German reinforcements. - September (1) 3-4-3 (West) and (2) 3-4-3 (East), EXEPT if option #8 is chosen (not "6). - December (2) 3-4-3 (Free East / West), EXEPT if option "8 is chosen (not "6). ((Explanation : Option #8 gives these 5 corps 3-4-3 at start, they can't appear as reinforments)). MAP : yes, to be ignored (Shipping values, Agriculture symbols, mysterious boxes labeled 1-4 in sea zones, Guerrilla values outside of Africa, ect.). BOOK I 16-A Rain should be Snow : yes, ok 25-B Distribution of two armies in sub-battles - can this violate the equal division of corps in two sub-battles (ie. 4/2) or can units from one army join the sub-battle of the other ? It is very are the Attacker attacks with one army with only 1 or 2 corps. anyway if such situation happens, you have 1) to divide equaly 2) if a sub-battle has 2 Armies corps , be carfull who is in command, per corps. 27-C Example (in italics) seems to conflict with the modifiers - defender' chart on Cmbat/movement game aid. Should I assume that the chart is correct ? Ok you are right. The error is the modifiers were changed to the English version, but the example is still the French modifiers... The example is wrong. I assume that the isolated RP expenditures are per turn, not for the (limeted) life of the units. Yes. 32-E What does the shaken effect do in this case ? Ok, it is an translation mistake. The right sentense is : " If a breakthrough hex has an ennemy stack that just retreated, it has to retreat again. " TRENCH RULES 45-iii Military situation - I assume that these carry over' from Interphase to Interphase, instead of just being changes since the last Interphase. The Military situation is checked at each Interphase. i.e. whatever when a city was conquered, it still counts as long as the city is conquered. 62-F I don't seem to have a rapid battle chart. Is this omitted in the English Version ? YES !!! You are absolutly right !!! These two charts are so missing... Here are the two attached files. 76-D What is the actual rule cancelled ? (38-g doesn't exist in this version) Ok, it was French #, untranslated error... The "53-G" is cancelled. Do sieges last into the Winter Interphase ? What do you mean ? There is no Siege check during an Interphase. How does this effect the formation of front ? I do not understand your question about "front formation" and what ?... ADVANCED RULES 78-A Does parliament's influence, noted here, have any effect on play ? ie. should parliament be ignored in A regime ? Yes, at some parts in the Rules (Political Actions, Revolution...). 87-F Neither DEs nor CLs can sink subs ? You need one DD (or DE) per U-boat to try to sink them. Excess DD are ignored (unless you hace Escort, and all DD may apply a ratio vs u-boats to limit their effisciencies to sink EP). 93-E Modifiers to the Encounter test seem a little strange. (a) difference not sum? (I think that I see the reasoning here, I just want to make certain) (b) No, it is difference, I confirm. But if both are "in Control" there automatic meet each other. Enemy sea modifier seems to make it easier to control an enemy sea than a contested sea. The Enemy has a better chance to meet you if it is an enemy sea control. 94-F Only allows shock (on landing) in the case of Skirmish (K) or Meeting (M); this seems to conflict with 97-B which implies that any engagement may be converted. Which is correct ? Yes I see : only K and M may upgrade to Schock. 95-S If a fleet is qualified to flee, is there still a pursuit ? Yes it may be : the Pursuer has the choice to fight or not. 97-D I assume that one can make a landing on a friendly beach as well (following the same rules). Yes, why not but it is strange... 97-E I assume that the exceptions ( in case of success) allow no breakthrough at all, instead of a larger one. Yes, no breakthrough (because there were fortresses). 103-A Further Putsch (by event) in regime C seems to contradict 102-D which says no new government may be installed. Which is correct ? There is no contradiction ! I explain : in regime C you can't ask fr a "new government" to raise up your NW (it means no new bolshevick governement). But, if a Putsch happens and dismiss the regime C, now it may be a new government from the new reime (nomore C). 103-M Is M regime under Michel to be considered a new regime from M regime of Nicholas for restrictions against replaying regime ? No, only one M regime may happen (what ever is the czar). Also, wouldn't it seem that a putsch could be countered by a restoration ? What do you mean by restauration and putsch ? 111-B Historical example seems wrong, counts points for AH surrender (contrary to 110-A) and not for Russian surrender. Yes You are absolutly right : AH VP's surrender still counts if Germany surrenders. Errata 110 -B : remove " (but no VP "). SCENARIO BOOK Russian set up: I Army claims that arty shows up in Kowno, while under Sept. reinforcements it says with HQ. Which is correct ? Ok, it is directly in the HQ (ignore Kowno). English BC Lion is listed in setup, and as a reinforcement. I assume that it is a reinforcement. Yes, as reinforcement. There are only 2 English BC in play in North Sea, until Tiger is coming in October 14. AIDS SHEETS Gallipolli (England) I assume that Turkey may send fleet as though this is a sorty. Yes. England-L Is supply on Euphrates (only) correct ? Yes. Errata : add + Tigris. Can Turkish 4-5-4 [V] mountain units be rebuilt ? What is cost ? Errata : cost is the same as active 4-5-4. Italian MTB Should this have a chart (like the german sub table) ? Yes, ok : here is the missing chart. · Torpedoing Table : (in Adriatic only) 2-6 nothing 7 CL Zenta 8-9 AC Budapest 10 B Habsburg (1914-15) or Erz Karl (1916+) 11 B Zrinyi 12 BB Viribus Unitis · Then the ship counter rolls its Critical Hit (D6) : [1-3] : damage (or 3 hits) ; [4-6] one ship counter unit is sunk. · A BB only sinks on a 6 (othewise it is damaged). Italy earns NW +1 (and A-H NW -1), if a B or BB unit sinks. Speaking of the German Sub table, what English ships are in danger ? Any in the world ; only those near North Atlantic, or only those on mission ? By commodities, the English ship is dircetly determined by the German Sub Chart (in his Game aide), wherever the English naval counter is. Note : all English counters list are in North Sea at the game start. SOME CLARIFICATIONS 69- Rolling Barrage : Are artillery used as normal during the Sub-battle (adding 2 or 3 to trength) ; it's not clear from the examples. What about in other tactics? The Rolling Barrage attacker need 4 artilleries : two per sub-battle ; one for the battle support (add 2 in strenght in attack, if the defender does not fire with an artillery), and one for the Rolling Barrage (do not add 2 in strenght). 82- X-2 Does this need to be selected every interphase (twice for unrestricted) or does it carry over after a success? X-1 and X-3 seem to stay in effect. No, just once to stay in effect. 85- Production: What happens if Civilian production (temporarily) rises above the base on the chart (due to a strike say) ? It cannot raise above (it must stop on top). Also, I'm afraid I saw an explanation for the ½ s on the production charts, but can no longer find it in the rules. How are they treated ? I do not remmeber too... But, I think it is 1) divide by 2, OR 2) can produce 1-turn-in-2. Are division treated as corps ? Yes. ex: can you convert them to RP by flipping them ? Yes. When preliminary bombardment gives a casulty to an already flipped unit, does it take a moral check ? Yes. What happens if both sides are researching the same combat tactic, one aquires it, but doesn't use it ? Nothing, the second side may try to acquire by itself. Does the other continue working on the same one ? Yes. What if they are not working on the same tactic and a power gains a tactic, but refuses to use it ? If she does not use it, no matter. Can the other side work towards it ? I guess this all has to do with secrecy of the tactics, which seems to be implied, but the rule that exactly 2 will be discovered per year, and that the enemy does not aquire them until after they've been used, seems to create a whole mess of problems. In a very rare case (I never see it...), if both sides research the same TAC, get it but never use it. In this very special case, the 2nd TAC will be randomly given to a side. Well, thank you for your patience. I hope that I am not too much trouble. I shudder to ask, but is support provided for other games by Azure Wish? I had always kind of assumed that it wasn't, but I have a number of other games... Yes, it depends on the game. Try... (you have become my favorite game company) Thank you !!! and I would love to get 'official' answers to questions about them as well, if possible. Ok. Thanks ! Bruno de Scorraille
