From: Torben AEgidius Mogensen Subject: [eurobrit] My own Brit 2 errata Hi all, I have read through the FFG rules and made my own errata for these (deliberately keeping these independent of Steve's). Comments are welcome. Torben Unofficial errata and clarifications for FFG's Britannia -------------------------------------------------------- This is based on a comparison between the rules used during playtest and the rules actually published by FFG. Note that FFG have (unofficially) stated that they did not intend to change the game from the playtest version, but that they did extensive restructuring and reformulation of the rules to aid readability. Hence, I will treat all differences as errors until I hear FFG claim otherwise. I will only address the rules of the standard game, i.e., neither the tips on page 16, the 3/5 player games nor the variants and optional rules. The page numbers below refer to the FFG rules, as posted on their webpage (http://fantasyflightgames.com/britannia_support.html) in January 2006. The Game Board: On the game board, Jutes are listed as moving before the Saxons. In the playtest game, the Jutes move immediately after the Saxons. Nation Cards: The Roman Nation Card does not list Belgae under nations that can submit to the Romans (in the Nation Reference, it is listed in the scoring scrolls). Page 6: Under "Eliminating Units", it is said that the Romans score 6 VP (victory points) for eliminating Boudicca in Round 1. They can (as stated on their Nation Card) do so also in Round 2. Page 6: Under "Roman Victory Points" it is stated that the Romans get VP for areas held by submitted Welsh, Brigantes and Picts as if they themselves occupied them. This is true also of areas held by the Belgae if they submit in Round 1, so in addition to getting 6 VP for submitting the Belgae, the Romans also count all Belgae-held areas as being occupied by Romans (for their Round 1-3 score). Since the Belgae unsubmit in their own turn in Round 1, the Romans do not score for areas the Belgae move into after this, nor do they score Limes points for areas held by Belgae in Round 5. Page 6: Under "A Game Round" it is stated that invading armies are placed at the start of the game round, before each nation has its turn. In the playtest version, new invaders were placed in each nations own turn, prior to population increase. This means that units that are eliminated between the start of the game round and the start of the nation's turn can be taken as invaders. If there are sufficient armies available to place the invaders at the start of the game round it was, however, recommended to place them already at this time, but solely as a reminder that they will appear. Page 8: The note about Norwegian, Norman and Saxons Round 16 reinforcements appears in the section describing the Population Increase Phase, but the reinforcements appear at the beginning of the game round, before the nation turns. The Belgae and Romano-British reinforcements, which are placed during population increase, are not mentioned here. Page 9: The paragraph "Overruns" can give the impression that the battle in the overrun area is resolved before armies move through. This is not true, all movement must be complete before any battle takes place. Page 10: The "Pict Raiding" box say "even those that begin the nation turn on land". Since no Pict can start the nation turn at sea, this means all Pict armies. Page 11: The rule that defenders in difficult terrain are only killed on sixes take precedence over the previous rules (1 - 3). Additionally, it could be stated here that a leader will add 1 to the dice rolls of all friendly forces in the area. Page 13: Under the "Leader Movement" box, it is stated that armies that start at sea must retreat back to the sea area in which they began their movement phase, even if this is not the area they entered the battle from. The last part ("even if ...) only applies if the area the armies entered the battle from is a sea area, so if an army lands and then move over land to the area where the battle takes place, they retreat back to the land area from which they entered the battle. In short, an attacker always retreats to the area from which it entered the battle, and if this happens to be a sea area it will go back to the (land or sea) area from where it started its movement phase. If such a retreat would make the army end the nation turn at sea and this is not allowed (i.e., the nation does not have raiding this turn), the retreat is not allowed in the first place. Page 13: The "Raider Withdrawal" section fails to mention Pict raiders, so add a reference to page 10. Page 15: The "Arthur" box say that Arthur and his cavalry are placed with Romano-British armies and only if this is not possible are they placed in an empty English area south of Cumbria, Pennines and Bernicia. They are, in fact, free to place Arthur and his cavalry in an empty area even if there are Romano-British on the board, and they can place them in _any_ empty area south of the three named areas, including Welsh areas. Page 15: Regarding submission of Welsh, Brigantes and Picts, the Romans score VP also for areas that submitted nations occupy during turns 1 - 3, but only if the Romans have not already scored for these areas. If the submitted nation later leaves such an area, the Romnas may enter it to build a fort (unless there has previously been a fort there), but they do not score for the area again. Also, when halving population points and VP, you round halves up, not down. Page 15: The "Belgae Submission" section fails to mention that Romans get points for having been in Belgae-occupied areas when these submit. Page 15: Romano-British armies can replace forts and armies south of _and_including_ York and Cheshire. Page 18: Regarding King Cnut and his armies, they are removed in the Raider Withdrawal phase. Kingship is checked immediately prior to this phase. Torben Mogensen (contributing playtester) More info on Britannia, visit the Defi Web site : www.chez.com/britannia Yahoo!
