From: Frank van den Bergh Subject: Q&A Ataturk Khyberpass Games Dear Sirs, Recently I played Atataturk by Khyber Pass Games. Some unclarities led to an e-mail conversation about rules with Bruce Yearian. This was the result of the Q & A session I want to share with my fellow wargamers. Q: Last weekend I played Ataturk and a situation occurred not covered in the rules. A rebellion was rolled in Konya. However, this was occupied by Turkish units (A corps HQ and two divisions). What happens in this case? Is there either a) No rebellion? or b) A succesful rebellion which forces the Turkish Army units to vacate the hex and which therefore needs to be quelled? We played the latter option but it is not covered in the rules. A: The following is straight from the designer, Dennis Bishop: The rebellion occurs. It cuts supply for both sides. The Turkish Corps remains in the hex. If the Turkish Corps can trace a line of supply to Konya, it is considered supplied. If the Turkish Corps is tracing a line of supply from Konya, it is out of supply. The Turkish Corps can retreat during the movement phase, or attack during the combat phase with the possibility of an "Atrocity" occurring. There are no rules that do not allow different factions from occupying the same hex. Q: One more small query is a map query. It has to do with the Bosporus. Though the rules state that partial water hexes are other terrain some things are still unclear to me. Can a unit in hex 0605 move to hex 0606 and vice versa? Ditto between hexes 0705 and 0706? And what about hex 0506; can a unit move from 0506 to 0507 (i.e., is some sort of ferry capacity across the Bosporus assumed in this hex)? Ditto for hex 0406. Finally, there are numerous hexes along the Turkish coastline that have a small line of clear terrain and the remaineder is rough. I play these as rough hexes. Is that correct? A: Move 0605 to 0608: No. Move 0606 to 0605: No. Move 0705 to 0706 or vice versa: No. 0506 to 0507 or vice c\versa: No. There are no ferries. 0406 can move to 0506 or vice versa, but it is considered to be in European Turkey. It may not enter Anatolia. Thrace may only be invaded by Entente forces through amphibious invasion. The Turkish Garrison may never leave Anatolia. Basically, a fleet counter is needed to conduct an amphibious invasion at Uskidar (0805) as the only means of attacking Thrace. All partially rough terrain hexes are considered to be rough terrain for movement and combat. You are correct. Q: The abbreviations within the Turkish Army. What is the
meaning of Mv: ATP: ATK: and API: As someone who is interested in history, I am very curious about this and
regret that it is not included in the game. Oh, yes, and do the favourable terrain effects for Turkish units apply to
Turkish Caliphal units as well? A: Still trying to get the info on the abbreviations you have mentioned. The OB was from a source that has the official records of the Turks during WW1 and the war for independence. I will send these as soon as I can get the info but that might be some time. Caliphal units DO NOT get the effects that Turkish units have. Sincerely yours Frank van den Bergh
