I suspect what is described in the errata as 2 extra VP for the Catholics is really not necessary, if the "no VP double-whammy" (see II viii b Peasant Revolts) notion is taken into account. Since Area occupation is calculated using the "no double-whammy" principle, the VP total will be different if Hungary starts as Catholic and then is converted to Protestant before play begins, or Hungary starts as Protestant right away. If Hungary starts Catholic and is converted to Protestant before turn 1, then the VP setup will match the Area, City and Elector control exactly! Let's assume that there is a "Before Hostilities" setup, exactly like the Campaign/Early war setup, but with Hungary as Catholic. The Catholic Area and City setup will then produce +34 VP. The Protestant setup will produce -13 VP. The Electoral majority will give +2 VP, and then Hungary is converted from Catholic to Protestant due to the Rebellion, which produce -2 VP. Now the VP total is 21, which is exactly what it should be in the Campaign/Early War setup! No Catholic VP explanation using Ferdinand II is necessary! The Intervention and Apocalypse Setups can also be derived exactly, by choosing the proper order of who takes which area or city first, and who takes the Neutrality Violation VP. The Early War events shall produce +24 VP, and the Intervention events shall produce -7 VP. This is how it can be achieved: Turn 1-5: Neutrality violations: 0 VP (Baden -1, Pomerania -1, Mecklenburg +1, Hesse-Kassel +1). Neutral -> Catholic: +9 VP (Strasbourg +1, Mecklenburg +2, Baden +2, Hesse-Kassel +2, Pomerania +2). Catholic -> Protestant: -4 VP (Hesse-Kassel -2, Pomerania -2). Protestant -> Catholic: +11 VP (Nurnberg +1, Bohemia +3, Upper Palatinate +2, Lower Palatinate +3, Hungary +2). Protestant -> Neutral: +1 VP (There is no such possible event in the rules, but Frankfurt is handled in this way in the Intervention setup). Events: +7 VP (Dutch war track at +2: +2, C-6 Edict of Restitution +5). In total: 0+9-4+11+1+7 = +24. Turn 6-8: Neutrality Violations: -1 VP (Lorraine). Neutral -> Catholic: +2 VP (Lorraine). Neutral -> Protestant: -8 VP (Corbie -1, Compiegne -1, Sedan -1, Rocroi -1, Metz -2, Brunswick-Luneberg -2). Catholic -> Protestant: -3 VP (Lorraine -2, Franche-Comte -1). Protestant -> Catholic: +3 VP (Brandenburg +2, Magdeburg +1). Catholic -> Neutral: -1 VP (Strasbourg, setup description only). Events: +1 VP (C-22 +3, All Electors +5, P-22 -2, P-23 -3, C-19 -2). Total: -1+2-8-3+3-1+1, -7 VP.
