From: Ted Raicer Subject: Re: Clarification of TGWiNE VP hexes In a message dated 97-05-24 01:30:37 EDT, you write: << The section in the Near East rules covering combined play with TGWiE says: 'Victory is calculated under TGWiE rules section 4.0, with the addition that Turkish cities and Allied victory hexes in the Near East are counted in figuring the current CP Victory point totals.' The phrase 'Allied victory hexes' is also used in the How to Win section, when discussing Regular CP victory. But, the map does not make any reference to Allied victory hexes. The terrain feature used in TGWiE for Victory hexes, is also used in TGWiNE, but the terrain chart calls it Turkish Surrender cities. There is a red rectangle termed CP victory hex. If a person went by the map, you might think that the CP start with 5 VP's, because of the similar terrain to TGWiE. Do Turkish surrender cities = Allied victory hexes? Is there a misprint in the rule book? Thx, Karl >> In the combined game, all hexes west of the Suez Canal, Basra, Abadan, Baku, Tabriz and Ahwaz count towards a CP victory. All Cities in the Ottoman Empire (Jerusalem, Damascus,Baghdad, Kharput etc.) under Allied control are subtracted from the CP total. Constantinople remains the only city that counts as both, and is therefor worth a swing of 2 points. Turkish surrender hexes (towns and cities) are still used to determine Turkish surrender (and see 17.12 for the effect of the Near East on the Russian Revolution rolls). Ted Raicer
