Subject: Q&A from The Gamers (List) Hello, these submissions come from the Gamers List. Martin Gallo aka Martimer@mindspring.com TCS Q) An area fire weapons fires at a Bren carrier (a B target). As I understand them, the rules say to use the area combat table. If so, does that mean that just one step loss destroys the Bren carrier plus any passenger unit? A (Dean) Yes, that is correct...although there has been some discussion here (on the Gamers-L) about more subtle mechanics (I think there is something about B-type carriers in the house rules consolidation the members of the list have made). If my recollection is in error, I'm quite sure Lee Forrester had some material on it. A (Lee from the Gamers List) It works like this. If the carrier is eliminated, then anything being carried/towed is eliminated. But follow the normal method of distributing step losses. First step goes on the biggest unit, INCLUDING units being carried. Next step is assigned by the defender/target, so it can be any unit in the hex, whether it's being carried or not. The third step (and every odd one from there on out) is assigned by the firer, and that's when you see the B targets getting hit, since killing them takes the unit in them as well. So effectively it takes a '3' result or higher to kill a carrier carrying interesting stuff. Other suggestions have been made, but none are official. One way to handle it is to treat B1 as P targets when fired upon by A class firers at range 4 or greater. Another is to treat them as P targets when fired upon by units with a range of 6 or less, so they are vulnerable to MMGs, HMGs, mortars, IGS and artillery, but not LMGs in inf. squads and the like. That's my personal favorite, but I'm always a renegade :-)
