From F&M 6 The following questions arose during the course of numerous games played in preparation for this Battle Report. The questions were posed by Ray Lowe to Designer Steve Peek and may be considered Official Rulings (1) Q. What is the scale of the game in terms of hex size and 'real' time per Game-Turn? A. Approximately 100 yards per hex/30 seconds per move. (2) Q. Why are torpedoes fired from 1, 25, 50, 75, and 100 foot depths all endowed with the same degree of accuracy? Isn't this unrealistic? A. When measuring from the keel, 100 feet is maximum periscope depth for game purposes. (3) Q. Do the German type T-5 Mod torpedoes listed on the Weapons Availability Chart have any special movement characteristics? They are listed as circling torpedoes; do they circle? If so, how? A. They really did circle in front of convoys until they homed on propeller sounds--in the game they don't circle. (4) Q. Are hedgehogs and squids still effective on submarines deeper than 400 feet? If so, what column do they use on the ATW modifier chart? A. No. (5) Q. ln all scenarios, can submarines escape by exiting the mapboard even if there are Turns to be played? A. Oops! Submarines may exit, but not re-enter in Convoy scenarios. (6) Q. Can collisions occur between submarines at 25-foot depth (conning tower showing) and surface vessels? A. For game purposes - no. (7) Q. Can submarines at 0, 25, or 50 feet ever be struck by torpedoes? If so, what Torpedo Attitude modifiers are used? A If someone is doing their own scenarios it can happen - use Target Class 1. (8) Q. Do capital ships have the ability to increase or decrease their speeds by two hexes per Turn as do escort vessels? If so isn't this unrealistic? A. Yes, It may be somewhat unrealistic, but larger ships slow at about the same rate as escorts. (9) Q. Can collisions occur between submarines? between a surfaced submarine and one at 25-foot depth? A. For game purposes - no. (10) Q. When using Submarine Hidden Movement, should the Escort player ever know the results of an Anti-Submarine Attack if the submarine was not sunk, only damaged? A. Not if you trust your opponent - otherwise it would be a good Idea to keep the escort player posted.
