From: Doug Murphy Subject: Blood on the Tigris questions -Reply >>> Jonathan Gingerich 02/23/96 09:45pm >>> Some questions for Perry Moore... ...While I'm certainly not Perry, we've played this one enough to have our own answers for some of the following, if you're interested. >>> multiple tac. advantage questions... --- Tac advantages are cumulative for the attacker and offset by defender advantages. So if the attacker and/or defender met the definition of tac. adv. as noted on the table on the map (don't have the map handy), you tote them up prior to resolving combat. >>> Does the attacker decide first, or the defender? simultaneously? ...Simultaneously. We looked at 7.0. "...the attacker and defender decide on expending depots, calculate an odds ratio..." >>>Question 7.5, 12.3, 12.5 If some but not all the attackers (or defenders) are combat supplied, do they count non-terrain tactical advantages? ... We said all involved had to be combat supplied to receive tac adv. Rule 2.0 "No advantages are received when a unit or stack is out of supply or the owning player elects not to expend a depot to support an attack or defense." Rule 7.0 notes the tac. adv. is determined after combat supply determination. >>Question 7.2, 10.0, 12.5 If an 'out of supply' unit is in combat, and it does not have combat supply, does it fight at 1/2 or 1/4 strength? ...We said quartered....followed the logic of Rule 10.0 at the end of the section where it said units OOS and OOC are quartered. >>Clarification 11.0 & 12.4 Aircraft do not expend the depot which supplies their base, correct? ...Correct. Rule 3.22 noted "Ground units attack at full strength by expending a depot." >>Question 14.0 What (where) is Shatt al Hai? How does it affect movement during the rainy season? ...Good question. I don't remember where it is. Though 14.0 says the Shatt wadi becomes a minor river for movement during rain turns. >>Question 3.4 10.0 15.0 Do gunboats and steamers require survival supply? ...No. 15.1 No LOC path need be traced for naval vessels. Again 3.22 noted "Ground units" trace supply. >>Question 15.0 & 12.4 Do gunboats and steamers require combat supply? ...No. We interpreted units to refer to Ground units. Naval combat in 15.0 is simply rolling a die rather than consult the CRT. >>Question 15.0 Is it true as stated that gunboats not escorting a steamer cannot be attacked by HQ's or artillery they pass. 15.0 states whenever "naval vessels" move adjacent to an HQ or arty, they must pause and undergo an arty attack." We played as if gunboats alone in a hex constituted a "stack" and underwent the attack but was sunk on a 1 as it says in 15.0 >>Clarification 15.0 The British 2 boat counters roll only one die for combat, but if sunk, are flipped and displaced rather than eliminated, correct? While the rules make no mention of flipping those two-step units and just speak of being "sunk," that's what we did. What was odd to us is the example in 15.6 speaks of the gunboat being "sunk." >>Clarification 15.6 Displacement terminates naval movement, correct? Displacement of the moving unit? While 15.0 says navla units may ignore any rules which halt friendly units moving adjacent to enemy units, 15.6 says displaced gunboats do not affect movement by the stack that displaced it. >>Clarification 15.6 Victorious gunboats may continuing moving through and past a displaced enemy, correct? May they attack a displaced enemy again? ...We said the latter. "Other stacks moving in would have to fight the displaced unit normally." >>Question 15.6 If naval combat results in a tie, is another round fought, or is the tie rerolled until broken? I.e. can gunboats be sunk after they tie? ...In a tie, we immediately rolled again. Doug Murphy
