You're close; you answered questions 1, 2, and 5 properly. However on questions 3 and 4, you were too easy. In both cases, failure to be able to retreat causes capture. It may be extreme but for the level of game we created it is right. Whoever should have had those units captured would learn the lesson for the next game which is keep your units in lines so that they have retreat routes. Have fun! As owner of the game, I tried to adjudicated them following the spirit of the rules as closely as possible. As the game's designer however, I would be most interested in your insights into the following questions. > >1. May a target unit be attacked multiple times during the same fire phase? For example, if I have a 1 strength artillery unit and a 2 strength artillery unit, may I fire the 1 strength unit against the target unit, observe the results, and then attack the same target unit a second time with the 2 strength unit (assuming it has not been eliminated or forced to retreat by the first attack)? > >1A. A target unit may be fired upon only once per fire phase. Thus the example given above would be prohibited. > >2. With a pin result, must the pinned defending unit counterattack all adjacent hexes containing units which participated in the combat that caused the pin, or may the defending unit instead attack only one of these hexes, provided other friendly units attack the other hexes during the same close combat phase? Thus if one defending unit is attacked from two hexes with a pin result, the defending unit may counterattack one hex, provided other friendly units attack the second hex in a separate combat. > >2A. When a unit is pinned in an attack from multiple hexes, the pinned unit may counterattack only one hex, provided other friendly units attack the other pinned hexes during the same close combat phase. > >3. A unit cannot retreat without overstacking. However, if the unit is reduced in strength, it can retreat without overstacking. May a unit with no other path of retreat voluntarily take a step loss in order to retreat without overstacking? > >3A. Yes, with the step loss being treated like a /1 result. > >4. What happens if a unit suffers a R or D result from rifle/artillery fire but has no legal path of retreat? > >4A. The R or D result is converted into a /1 result instead. > >5. Does a pinned result effect only the units which participated in the combat, or does it effect all units in the hex regardless if they participated in combat or not? > >5A. The pinned result effects only the units which participated in the combat. Other units may move into or through the hex freely. > >Thanks again for your help... > >Jim Kelly >
