From: jdc@nwu.edu (John D. Coley) Subject: Glory Q&A GLORY Q&A (Questions from John Coley, Answers from Richard Berg) Q. The rules state that artillery units do not participate in charge attacks, and that lone artillery, or a stack of 2 artillery units, are automatically eliminated if charged. The rules also state that artillery can hold their return fire and opt instead to fire cannister (+1DR) at a charging enemy unit. What happens if a lone artillery unit that has held its return fire is charged? Is it (a) automatically eliminated, or (b) does it fire at +1, and then get automatically eliminated only if any non-disordered enemy units remain to complete the charge? A. It can fire, and then the incoming ainfantry will eliminate the arty auto as long as they weren't routed by the reaction fire. Q. An infantry unit firing at an infantry unit stacked with an artillery unit only affects the targeted infantry unit, not the artillery unit. Does the target artillery unit still count as having been fired on for purposes of return fire? I.e., can the artillery unit in the fired-upon stack fire return fire at the infantry unit, even though it would not have been effected by the infantry unit's original fire? A. Yes Q. Given a choice between retreating into an enemy ZOC or displacing a friendly unit, (a) must a disordered retreating unit retreat into an open hex in an enemy ZOC and therefore accrue an additional disorder, causing a route, or (b) can the disordered unit displace a friendly unit rather than retreating into the open ZOC hex? What if the retreating unit is routed? Can it displace a friendly unit rather than routing into an enemy ZOC hex, taking an additional disorder, and thereby being eliminated? A. 'b', and Yes Q. Is there an unused Confederate entry hex for 1st Manassas? (I don't have the map with me so I can't give you the hex number. Sorry.) A. Could be . . . only place they enter is one the east side. Might have been left over from old version, when I brought in Hampton as a reinforcedment... Q. In the artillery fire phase, an artillery unit stacked with an infantry unit fires on an adjacent infantry unit stacked with an artillery unit. Can the fired-on units return fire then and there? Does the return fire (a) affect the firing artillery unit, or (b) affect the non-firing infantry unit with which the firing artillery unit is stacked (as per the rules regarding firing at stacked units)? A. Yes, and b. From: "John D. Coley" Subject: But wait, there's more! (GLORY Q&A) Here's some more questions about GMT's GLORY, with answers from Richard Berg and some bonus errata/clarifications.
