EIAZDZ by Nebojsa Stefanovic - Steva steva@eunet.yu steva@sezampro.yu Avala Hill Gaming Club, Belgrade, Yugoslavia Short description ----------------- EIAZDZ is an EIA game-aide which covers the whole battle routine. I wrote it down for our club needs with much broader aim (to cover PSA status etc) but disaster struck and I lost complete source code in a hasty hard disk upgrade. This beta survived on a floppy. It is not perfect but I wasn't in the mood to write it again from the scratch... Anyway it will come in handy while doing battles. It is interactive, provides the bulletin of the battle, calculates losses of the allies etc etc. Complete with variants such as Napoleon's age and others. Input files are .txt so you can edit them yourself if you need to change something in variants to come. The cutest use of this program is that it instantly calculates the losses, can serve as an what-if analysis tool when planning ahead battles on certain terrain with various chits and nicely assigns the casualties to allies. Basic info ---------- On initial 'Hit me' prompt type 'battle' (if you try 'score' you can have a look at an awesome graphic design of PSA module that never seen the light). Type in the name (whatever) and date (in Dec 1812 format, this might be important because of Napoleon's strategic rating). You can combine some area types (mr stands for mountain, attacker crossed the river). Attacker and defender can be combined too (a p r is obviously a coalition of Austria, Prussia and Russia). Commander names can be abbreviated (for example kush for Kushanz Ali, tur for Turkish corps with no commander). When typing forces, type ? to get more hints on unit types etc. (? can help in most other prompts.) Hitting enter only ends the army input. From this point it's pretty straightforward. In any prompt you can type quit to end the input and to return to 'hit me' prompt. Troubleshooting --------------- Due to poor memory allocation this beta crashes from time to time or behaves unpredictably, mostly after certain number of battles performed. The workaround is to exit the program and start it again (it is recommended to run it as a Windows task so you can kill it if your machine hangs). Parting words ------------- You can use EIAZDZ in whatever ways you like. Distribute with all files including this readme. (It won't work without .txts.) EIAZDZ is freeware, but if you like it you can show your appreciation by helping us in designing a game on Yugoslavia break-up war '91-'95 (see details below). If you have questions you can try to ask on: steva@eunet.yu, steva@sezampro.yu. AHGC project: Yugo wars '91-'95 ------------------------------- So, you liked this cute EIA aid and feel like treating the author somehow. This is the most preferred way: contribute to my future board game, which will resemble the break-up of Yugoslavia and wars that raged from '91 to '95 in Croatia and Bosnia. (I hope we won't need to extend it after '95 Dayton peace accord). The game will be a grand-strategy; will be an area-type, corps level and leaders; diplomatic and other non-military effects will be introduced also. The game will try to embrace excitement of EIA system, but of course it would have to be revised heavily in order to model modern warfare. This is how you can help. Contact the author via E-mail if you: * know some sites on the Internet where info about Yugo wars, particular battles, orders of battle of the armies, or any other facts and numbers that can be found. Overall facts, like army sizes and particular units involved are of the greatest interest since these facts here in Belgrade (and also in Croatia and Bosnia) are mostly exaggerated or biased. * know some books or reports on which the design can be based upon * did some research yourself, know some facts and want to discuss it * know any board or computer game designed upon this theme. I know that Command magazine did one in November 95. It is called Balkan Hell and comes with Mason-Dixon game (Command #35). I would be very grateful if some kind soul helps the wargaming effort in Serbia and donates the game. Anyway, if someone has got this game, please contact me on following E-mail addresses - I am very interested in orders of battle, game system etc... That would be it. Cheers, Steva steva@eunet.yu steva@sezampro.yu
