"If one is to do this, it is quite useful to read Caesar to see the kinds of things he considered important when choosing if or when to give battle." Prufrock muses about the value of running campaigns for the ancients gaming he prefers. See why "It turned out I'd rather refight Zama for the tenth time than try to sustain interest in endless minor encounters between similarly equipped neighbours over local concerns."

Fast, simple, not expensive, little errata, but only reasonably fun. (War game Review)

In his review on BoardGameGeek, Brendan Whyte first turns a critical eye towards the components and rules and lists their shortcomings. Game play fares better: “…the game is fast and quite fun”. Whyte then goes into comprehensive details covering game mechanics and spares no criticism for the game opponent (AI). The Victory of Arminius Review

The Victory of Arminius: Teutoberg Forest, IX AD is a simulation by Turning Point Simulations covering the battle in 9 AD where three Roman legions were ambushed and destroyed. It was due to treachery by a German in service for the Romans named Arminius. Upon hearing of the defeat, the Emperor Augustus, according to the Roman historian Suetonius in The Twelve Caesars, was so shaken that he stood butting his head against the walls of his palace, repeatedly shouting: "Quintili Vare, legiones redde! (Quintilius Varus, give me back my legions!)" The Centurions Review states, "This game is interesting since it does a good job simulating the crowded chaos of being ambushed in a forest. The Roman forces have their hands full in this game."
