From: psmith@hpmail2.fwrdc.rtsg.mot.com (Paul Smith) Subject: [WarinEur LIST] Module I: WWI This may not be the proper place for this, but some of you WiE folks may also have the WWI module published by SPI that uses the same maps (it provided new counters and rules) as WiE. Listed below are some (unofficial) changes that were inspired by the AH game Guns of August. It adds alittle detail in the naval area and adds some variability into when countries join the war. These areas were somewhat glossed over in the original rules and should make the game more fun to play. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Addenda to World War I: Module I Sea areas are defined as: N. Sea Atlantic Baltic W. Mediterranean E. Mediterranean Adriatic Black Sea It still costs 1 Resource Point to move one ship. Also, ships based in the Mediterranean may only sortie there. Ships based in the Black Sea may only sortie there until the Dardenelles forts are destroyed. Then they may sortie into the Mediterranean. US/English ships may only sortie into the Atlantic or N. Sea. They may sortie into the Baltic only after they control a German Baltic port. The Russian Baltic fleet may only sortie into the Baltic. German ships may sortie into the Baltic, Atlantic, or N. Sea. 1) Sea Invasions. Each of the countries listed below can invade with the number of divisions shown: Germany Italy France Britain US 10 10 10 20 20 No invasions in 1914. 5 Resource points count as 1 division (Depots ride for free). Each invasion must be escorted, 1 ship (minimum) for every 2 divisions. Cannot invade mountainous hexes. Only one invasion per turn. Entente players have 2 Beachhead markers. Central Powers have only 1. Cannot invade ports containing enemy ships. Cannot invade thru enemy controlled sea areas. +1 dr when enemy navy does not attempt to intercept. -1 dr when the landing is opposed. Submarine interception if Entente invades within 16 hexes (only count long the coast) of Bremen: dr 1-4 5-8 9-11 12-14 15-16 hexes from Bremen 1 - - - - - 2 A - - - - A = abort, return to port 3 A A - - - E = divisions are eliminated 4 E A A - - 5 E E A A - 6 E E E A A -1 DR if Entente control North Sea +1 DR if unrestricted submarine warfare is in effect 2) General Sea Transport. Each of the countries listed below can sea transport the number of divisions shown between friendly Port/Beachheads: Germany Italy France Britain US 20 20 20 40 40 Cannot invade thru enemy controlled sea areas. When moving within 16 hexes of Bremen, they are subject to submarine interception using the above table. 5 Resource Points equal 1 division for transport purposes (Depots ride for free). Only 20 Resource Points can be transferred thru a beachhead, 40 thru minor port, 80 thru major port. Every country also has Limited Naval Transport according to rule 5.6. 3) Naval blockade (replaces rules 12.53 and 12.54). When all of the sea areas adjacent to a countries coast are enemy- controlled, that country loses the following Resource Points due to blockade: Germany: N. Sea - 15 Baltic - 5 Austria: W. Med - 10 E. Med - 10 Italy: W. Med - 5 E. Med - 5 France: N. Sea & Atlantic - 10 W. Med - 10 England: N. Sea & Atlantic - 40 W. Med or E. Med - 10 Russia: gains 15 when the Dardenelles forts are destroyed and the Entente controls both the E. Med and Black Seas. 4) Germans can increase/decrease U-boat production. Each U-boat point = 1 Resource Point 5) Additional Navy can be built. It takes two years @ 10 Resource Points each to produce a ship. 6) Variable entry (replaces rule 14.6) A die is rolled to determine when a country joins a side. If the modified die roll is below the number shown below, the country joins the Entente (except Turkey may never join the Entente). If the modified die roll is above the number, the country joins the Central Powers (except the US may never join them). 1914 1915 1916 1917 1918| Italy |1-6 2-6 3-6 3-6 3-6| West Front (Entente rolls) US |1-6 1-6 2-6 3-6 3-6| ----------+-----------------------+------------------------------------- Turkey |1-4 1-4 1-4 1-4 1-4| Bulgaria |1-6 1-4 1-4 1-4 1-4| East Front (Central Power rolls) Rumania |1-6 1-6 2-6 3-6 3-6| Greece |1-6 1-6 2-6 3-6 3-6| West Front modifiers: +1 if Paris is controlled by Central Powers +y where y = 4 - British National Morale + French National Morale (0 min) -1 if unrestricted submarine warfare is in effect (US only) -1 if US has joined already (Italy only) -x where x = 4 - German National Morale + Austrian National Morale East Front modifiers: +1 per Central Power controlled Russian star city +1 if Turkey or Bulgaria has already joined Central powers +y where y = 2 - Russian National Morale -1 if Entente combat unit present in Greece (Greece only) -x where x = 4 - German National Morale + Austrian National Morale ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Paul F.
