From S&T #115 Dec. 1987 The following is the first published scenario which links the two games Abensberg and Eckmuhl. Two more linking scenarios will be published in S&T #116, and further scenarios and variants will be published in Wargamer #3. In all there will be eighteen or twenty scenarios and variants for the game. 18.5 20th April Abensberg/Eckmuhl 18.51 Set-up Use the Eckmuhl rules, plus the Command Structure Chart from Abensberg. Note that both players may deploy skirmishers. Use both maps: there is no "off limits" area on either. Units:French Use the counters listed in the Abensberg 20th April game, plus those listed in the Eckmuhl 21st game, plus unit #30 from the Eckmuhl game, and all skirmishers (both cavalry and infantry). Units:Austrian Use the counters listed in the Abensberg 20th April scenario, plus the following units from the Eckmuhl game: #115,#130-137,139-200. Note that all hex references to Eckmuhl counters or map are prefixed with an E; those without a letter prefix refer to the Abensberg map or counters. 18.52 Reinforcements There are no French reinforcements, though the French player may deploy additional skirmishers. Austrian reinforcements are as follows: Turn 1: Kollowrat's II Corps enter at hex E3400; it is in command control (Note that no more than 2 combat units (plus any leaders) may enter hex E3400, as they must immediately halt in the French AZOC). Turn 2: Hiller's VI Corps enters at hex 2933. The corps is in command control on the forst turn, but enters in column, the first unit having its full movement allowance, and each succeeding unit having half a movement point less. Leaders have their full movement allowance. 18.53 Scenario Length The scenario begins on the 0930 turn, and concludes with the 1930 turn. The French player moves first. 18.54 Victory Conditions The French player wins by having a margin of at least 2.5:1 in victory points at the end of the game. Victory points are awarded on the basis of 1 VP for each strength point lost by the enemy. In addition any unit which has exited the map, or which cannot trace a line of communication to the army command (Charles or Napoleon) counts its full (remaining) strength point total towards the enemy's victory point total. A line of communication is defined as follows. Each unit must be able to trace a path no longer than six hexes to their army commander, or to a friendly combat unit (not merely a leader) which itself can trace such a line of communication. Thus unit A can be six hexes from unit B, which is six hexes from unit C, which is six hexes from Charles. This line of communication can be as long as you like, provided each unit in the link is no more than six hexes from the next*. This line of communication can be traced through enemy ZOC, but not through an enemy unit. Note that the entire strength of Kollowrat's corps will count towards the French victory point total if a French unit remains in hex 3401. *When counting the six hexes, count the hex of one of the units, but not the other (i.e. there will be five hexes between the units). 18.5 Special rules 18.51 Skirmish counters #E107 and #E108 are detached from unit #E62. Skirmishers #E109 and #E110 are detached from unit #12. Skirmishers #198 and #199 are detached from unit #163. 18.52 The Jacquinot rule (Abensberg rule 13.10) applies. 18.53 Neither Charles nor the Austrian Reserve (including the pontoon train) may move for the first 4 turns. 18.54 From turn 5 on, the Austrian player rolls a die at the start of each of his turns: Charles may only move and give command control on a die-roll of 1-3. This rule simulates Charles' attacks of epilepsy, which kept him from taking any significant role in the battle historically. (Purists may wish to omit Charles altogether from the game. Those who wish to give the Austrian army more initiative should ignore this rule altogether. The rule represents a compromise. Any decision to omit Charles or ignore this rule, must be mutual and taken at the beginning of play. My personal preference is to use the rule as is: it adds a nice touch of uncertainty.KP). 18.55 Units #E186 and #E189 count as part of Hessen's division for purposes of command control.
