USENET is the global conferencing system for the Internet. It has thousands of newsgroups (conferences) on individual topics. USENET newsgroups are organised in hierarchies, so that the names of all newsgroups related in any way to gaming begin rec.games, comp.sys.[computer name].games or [country code].games. There is also an alternative gaming hierarchy in USENET with newsgroup names beginning alt.games. New newsgroups appear very infrequently in these hierarchies. Some newsgroups publish FAQs, (Frequently Asked Questions) which are documents containing the collective wisdom of a newsgroup.
Email and web-conferencing offer other ways of discussing wargaming via the Internet.
The links below, using Google Groups, allow limited reading of (and posting to, once signed in) the most relevant newsgroups. A commercial newsgroup provider, like the Giganews Newsgroup Service, will allow much easier reading of, and posting to, newsgroups.
