John Vasilakos - Jan 2, 2008 9:09 pm (#21371 Total: 21371) USS Freedom is not Free' LMCO Totensonntag A report of my first Solo game.... On November 19, the widely seperated brigades of the 7th Armoured Division Concentrated to the south of the Sidi-Rezegh 'gap'. DAK's Armoured Car Screen was brushed aside and severely mauled, losing the equivalent of a battalion's worth of vehicles. General Cruewall Ordered the 21st Panzer to move quickly to the east to protect the airfield and await the arrival of the 15th Panzer from the Torbuk area. The DAK planned to concentrate their armor before smashing the Desert Rats. They gambled on abanndoning Gambut in order to destroy the British. November 20 . The arrival of the 15th is delayed by confusion and radio jamming. The Italians make some threating moves from their box, but Strafer Gott orders the South Africans to screen his rear and awaits the arrival of the New Zealanders. As a result neither side is able to land a decisive blow. Tanks from both sides snipe at each other with the Crusaders the worse for wear... Nov 21 While the DAK holds Sidi Rezegh, the Tommies on Point 178 can call down annoying artillery fires on the German Positions. Rommel orders the Africa Division to take the heights. Heavy fighting results in the wrecking of two AD battalions and the 2nd Rifle Brigade/7 SG. But Jerry takes the point. Nov 22...A Kampfgruppe of the 15th moves against the Northern end of the British line, which was anchored on the Northern escarpment. Crueller's plan was to unhinge the British line. However they run into an ambush of 25 pdrs, supported by a surprisingly timely counterattack by the Honey tanks of the 4th brigade (A German dr of 6 and a Brit of 3 on the next impulse) as a result a battalion of Panzers is wrecked. Nov 23 With Gambut falling to the New Zealanders. The Bris now have the lead, This forces DAK to take the battle to the now concentrated 30 Corps. Little progress is made, as the restricted terrain around Sidi Rezegh channels the DAK thrusts. A couple of Crusader Battalions a severally mauled, but at the cost of two disrupted Panzer Battalions. Nov 24 The Germans fail to recover enough tanks to replace the losess in their Panzer Battalions. Tired and hungry grenaiders try to break through the British Cauldron. The finally awakened Italians also attack, but all are are repulsed at every turn. The sun goes down on a British victory (the 1 VP for Gambut...no one had a shattered Division, though both Panzer Divs were close , losing 3 pts each...7th Armoured had lost 5 units...)
