Alan Snider - Oct 15, 2005 6:41 pm (#10971 Total: 11030) On the Playtest Table: Khyber Pass Games' "The Battle of the Little Bighorn"; and announcing the "Northern Knights Wargaming Group" in Vancouver, Canada with a retail store of it's own at http://www.stalag17wargames.com/ GAMEDAY, OCT 14: (This is crossposted from a post by Terence Co aka joserizal in the Khan folder) Just played Khan the other night with Alan Snider this is a summary of what happened. The first three turns looked bleak for the Kingdoms player. The Mongols managed to pacify the Uiguhrs, Xia Xia and Chin with little effort and loss by turn 3, they built their great capital by turn 2, built a Khanate capital in Chin by turn 3. By this turn, the Kingdoms player only had 3-4 stratagem chits, only had Mien under his control and zero treasury points. Then on turn 3 or 4 it turned with the mongols and kingdoms player rolling revolt events which brought most of the muslim regions(except for the Delhi Sultanate) on the Kingdoms player side, along with France, Crusader states and Tartary coming later. The Kingdoms player used his huge income in treasury to buy more stratagem chits and build up the miliaries of some regions especially the Kwarizm. The Mongol player sensing this attacked the Kwarizm empire in the process attacking Tartary(with the purpose of controlling them later). While the Mongols managed to temporarily control samarkand and sacked Bokhara, the enraged Tartars struck back in turn 4 aided by levies and Kingdoms monies, they launched a massive offensive towards Mongolia, killing Genghis Khan, Borte, one other leader, destroying several Mongol Toumens in the process(due to the play of a few military advantage chits, gunpowder chit and treachery) and reaching the gates of Kharakorum itself(the Tartars almost pillaged Kharakorum but did not have the Operations points to attack the capital itself even though a garrison was only defending it). The Kwarizm while losing and gaining a leader in the process managed to eject the Mongols from their territory. In the death of the Great khan(Genghis), the Mongols lost all their stratagem chits which is a temporary advantage for the Kingdoms player. In turn 4, the Mongols struck back, destroying the Tartars besieging Kharakorum but sensing the game was about to end the next turn took positions to protect Kharakorum with three stacks of Mongol toumens forming interlocking ZOCs. The Mongols also settled back and did not really spend their treasury points. The Kingdoms player on the other hand spend half of their treasury to buy more stratagem chits and buy more units for their regions. The Tartars made another but sensing that they did not have enough operations points to reach and besiege Kharakorum again made a stab towards Xia Xia destroying a few units in the way but managing to lose a unit due to force march. They do however capture a city in the process. The last turn(turn 5), had the Mongols not attacking but protecting their conquests, the Kingdoms player played a lot of chits this turn(paper money, some diplomacy attempts, playing Crusades etc.). Playing Crusades managed to bring France into the Kingdoms fold and in the process, the Ayubbids evacuated Jerusalem and the Crusader states took it over thereby getting the Kingdoms player extra stratagem chits. The Tartars made a renewed dash towards Kharakorum only to be destroyed in the process and the lone Tartar force in Xia Xia managed to capture a city within Chin itself but failing to reach and pillage the Khanate capital there which was the goal. In the end, it was a victory for the Mongol player with 98 VPs compared to the Kingdoms 97 VPs.
