From: Mark Bakke Subject: Pocotaligo 1862/1864 While browsing in a local books/comics/CCGs store recently, I came across (and bought) a game called "The Civil War in South Carolina - Pocotaligo 1862/1864" by Western Carolina Historical Research of Montmorenci, SC. Does anybody else here have any experience with this game? The game's map and counter style are reminiscent of the AH's GCACW series. There are booklets for Basic and Advanced rules (each is 24 pages) along with a 20-page historical background booklet, a 22x32 map, various charts and tables and 280 1/2" counters packed into a ziplock bag. The game covers two campaigns and five battles -- Pocotaligo Expedition, 22 Oct 1862 (Caston's Plantation, Frampton Creek, Pocotaligo Bridge, Coosawhatchie) and Tulifiny Crossroads, 6-9 Dec, 1864. Game scale is 350 yds/hex, 30 minute turns, and approximately 50 men per strength point. The game calls itself "Volume 1", so I expect that there may be additional battles available as expansions. -- Visit "NIGHT OWL MK. Counters are 1/2" die-cut, glossy, well registered, back-printed, medium thickness, and use standard symbology. Leader counters feature pictures similar to those on AH's GCACW counters. The 22x32 mapsheet is unmounted and has a look that reminds me of some old SPI games. The typography is not great, but presents no problems. Color scheme is very good at clearly differentiating terrain types. Rulebooks are professionally printed, two columns per page in a large and easy-to-read serif typeface. They make good use of boldfaced keywords to assist one in quick skimming. Charts and tables are on sturdy cardstock, printed black-on-white, and there are two copies of fire combat tables. The whole thing comes packaged in a ziplock bag. > After you get a chance to read it I'd be interested in hearing how > alike it is to GCACW, or how dissimiliar. I'll let the list know after I get a chance to try it out. > Does the manufacturer have an internet presence? Any of the names in > the credits familiar? The only credit I've found so far is that for the publisher, Western Carolina Historical Research. No individual names or Internet contact info anywhere.
