Subject: Overview of S&G's Kaiserschlaht by Kerry Anderson Most of this is from memory. Physical components: 4 maps (2 22X24 and 2 sliver sized giving about a 44x32 surface) 400 counters 8 pages of rules (about 5 are real rules) Game Scale: 1 day per turn 3 miles per hex (a guess) The game covers fighting on the western front in 1918. The map is buried in trenches. Combine that with hundreds of counters, BLITZKREIG level rules, and a bloody CRT, it makes for a fast and furious game. With daily turns, the game is quite long. Scenarios are typically 60-90 turns long. The campaign game (March-November) is over 200 turns. Admittedly not as long as WACHT AM RHEIN or THE LONGEST DAY, this game is a playable mini-monster. The ultimate big, dumb and fun game. Because of the nature of the situation, it is ideally suited for three players - German, British, and French. All the historical sites are present - Verdun, Vimy Ridge, Ypres, etc. - each playing a role in the morale of the troops. The Excaliber version of the game, as far as I can tell, is a reprint of the original game, which I own. I don't know what exactly they are asking for it but I've seen prices like $100 in Canadian stores. A bit too pricey for me. Physically its not worth more than perhaps $30 but for the collector I would say it is worth it. The game was also reviewed in F&M way back - a volume in the teens I would say. Kerry {Editor's Notes: It was Fire & Movement #21. There is also some errata and info in Campaign #95.}
