Thomas Pierik searched for some informations about BOUNTY HUNTER from Nova Games I have a copy of this game, that had to start a series but that stopped at the first attempt : SHOOTOUT AT THE SALOON (catalogue number 008). It was published in 1982 , just after ACe of ACES (to which they refer in the cover), and it is very similar to his "air" brother, as the designer are Mike Vitale and Joe Angiolillo. You have two books, one for the LAWMAN and one for the OUTLAW : each book starts with a brief presentation of the STARS (Wild Bill Hickock, Wyatt Earp, Pat Garrett and Tom Horn for the LAWMAN : Jesse and Frank James, John Hardin and William Longley for the OUTLAW) and their guns. Each book has starts with the rules and a few examples . you also have a separate booklet with Ready Reference Tables, Silhouettes and Character Sheet. The playing system is very similar to ACE of ACES, but movements are, of course much more limited then thir aerial counterpart : in effect you may STAND (turnig your character around), move FORWARDs or SIDEWAYS : in total 17 possibilities. Again you tell your opponent the NUMBER of your move, then you go to your opponent's number and you jump to the final page. Each Character has his own starting page inside or in front of the Saloon. The differences with ACE of ACES are the following : - During play you may gain money, very usefull to pay the doctor, buy new guns and ammunition, pay fines, etc. I leave to your immagination how you ... gain your money. - You start with 6 bullets on your gun, so you have to keep care of your expenditures if you do not wish bad surprises. - There is a REPUTATION level used to calculate your BOUNTY (even the lawman may become an outlaw ... if he fires when it doesn't) - You may improve your SKILL level, becaming more and more expert with some weapons - Fianlly you have WAGES ... to pay your lawman at the end of the scenario The BIG differences are on the SHOOTOUTS : you have in effect 5 DISTANCE RANGES and 5 DIFFERENT SILHOUETTES of your characters : when you fire you have to hit your ooponent, of course, and then CHECK which part of him you touched, if any. If you advance towards your opponent you have a better chance to hit him in a vital place thus winning your duel : of course the higher is your SKILL level, the better you fire. The game is easy and it took only a couple of games to teach it to my younger son (8 years old) before beeing always beaten by him : killing Daddy every 2 or 3 days was his favourite sport for a couple of monyths : now he is doing the same in the air with ACE of ACES. I hope to have been of some help, Thomas, but you may contact me directly if you need more informations Ciao Pietro ****************************************** * Pietro Cremona * "Old hand" Wargamer * Mail Address : CP 136 * 47023 Cesena Centro (FO) - ITALY * E-Mail : asterix@linknet.it * Phone : ++ 39 547-335121 ******************************************
