From: "David S. Bieksza" Subject: SPI Ad: Centurion (3/8) CENTURION (Tactical Warfare, 100BC to 600AD) * Leadership and Morale rules * Basic, Standard, and Optional games * Experimental Combat Resolution cards This tactical level game covers the battles fought by the Roman legions at the height of their effectiveness. Each unit counter represents 500 men. Each hex represents 100 meters and each game turn represents 15-20 minutes of "real" time. Battles from 106BC (against the Numidians) to 552AD (against the Ostrogoths) are included among the total of seventeen battles. Some of the more famous battles cover the revolt of Spartacus, Caesar's Gallic campaigns, the Roman Civil War, the Roman invasion of Britain, Teutoburgerwald and many others. Some of the unit types included in the game are: swordsmen (Roman legionnaires), barbarian infantry, spearmen, skirmishers, oriental cavalry (Parthians), Byzantine Cataphracts. As a bonus is an experimental combat resolution system (in addition to the usual die and results table system). Also included is issue 25 of S&T, containing articles on the Roman Army and on the organization of German forces in Russia during World War II (with many pages of charts). ------- Dave Bieksza bieksza@aplcomm.jhuapl.edu ------- Where monsters rampage, I'm there to take them down ...
