Joseph Miranda - 12:30am Apr 23, 2001 PST (#2580 of 2581) 1. Boer Volunteer reinforcements have their own column on the Boer Reinforcement Table. But rules section 6.1 doesn't say when to roll for Volunteers. Section 6.23 covers placement, but when do I get 'em? Those sneaky Boers. Roll during the normal Boer Reinforcement phase. Would I be right in simply adding a 6.1(4) - once for Volunteers? Yes. 2. There's a typo in 29.2, right? "On a roll of 1-4 Tactical Inefficiency remains in effect." Not 1-5 as written, correct? Correct. This was another example of tactical editing inefficiency. 3. Finally, at the end of 2.28.2, on page R2 under counter errata, it says "the back of 1 Naval brigade should be 2-3, not 3-3." Should that have been Natal , not Naval? Or am I just missing the Naval Brigade somewhere due to counter-blindness? Naval units are the marine units (anchor with infantry symbol). These represent RN shore parties with big, big guns. Joseph Miranda - 08:41am Apr 23, 2001 PST (#2581 of 2581) Rules for "Optional" attack from march are only on the map, and not in the rulebook, do you just pay 3MPs?? JM: There is no Attack from March. Ignore it. It was replaced with the Momentum rule, 18.251, at the last minute, too late for the map charts to be changed. A post fall of Pretoria scenario would have been nice to see. JM: We have one and will publish it in a future issue. Also Boer guerillas should be able to retreat before combat. JM: The "DO" result reflects this. Originally we had a "Guerrilla Stage" rule, but this added a lot to an already overcrowded rulesbook. Bear in mind that once it gets to the guerrilla stage, the Boers have de facto lost it, it's just a matter of dragging things out until you get a better peace settlement. Re: the political point chart, do the Brits really get +1 VP per other Boer held town in CC, Natal etc. in their End of turn Phase, shouldn't it be -1 VP per hex?? JM: Yes. Also with a side both adding to their own and subtracting from their enemy's for the same action (i.e., elimination or holding a place) wouldn't that result in wide(or wild) swings in the political index for both sides?? This could happen if only a few British units are eliminated while the Boers still hold their capitals and manage to take a couple of objectives in Cape Colony and Natal. JM: This reflects the wild swings in the political situation which happened in the original campaign. It also gives the Boers a chance for winning a "political" victory by seizing enough cities/towns early in the game. Taking critical cities and towns was a major objective in colonial campaigns and impacted heavily on the political situation. Several of the game events, such as Bitter Enders and Empire Rallies, are designed to counter too much negative feedback. Since you get two rolls on the Events table when your Morale is Low, this gives a 1/6 chance per turn of these events happening for a player, thereby triggering a turn-around in the situation.
