joserizal - Sep 30, 2004 3:58 am (#3605 Total: 3637) Frederic or Charles Vasey, Just played Semper Victor, a few questions: 1. In naval movement, can fleets pick up units in coastal areas without ports? 2. If non roman units control a diocese, do both the primus and secundus lose control of said diocese? 3. If diocese falls under the control of the enemy(Primus or secundus), does the controller of the diocese control the RI and the other militia troops from the diocesse? BTW, excellent game so far, so far played the first scenario and its going to be armageddon at Contantiniopole by the looks of it by turn 2 or 3. De Gaulle - Le Fil de l'épée 1. In naval movement, can fleets pick up units in coastal areas without ports? Yes port is only the place the fleet should be at the adjustment phase (end of each turn). 2. If non roman units control a diocese, do both the primus and secundus lose control of said diocese? see 3.7.3 note : Non roman unit are never taken into account for Diocèse control. That means the one who control it before barbarian invasion still "control" it. 3. If diocese falls under the control of the enemy(Primus or secundus), does the controller of the diocese control the RI and the other militia troops from the diocesse? Yes, starting at the beginning of the turn that follow the control's change. BTW, excellent game so far, so far played the first scenario and its going to be armageddon at Contantiniopole by the looks of it by turn 2 or 3. Thanks... If your can read French, there is a replay article of the whole game (75 years long scenario...) on line on my site. Terence aka "joserizal" and I are locked up in a game of Semper Victor as we speak...I require explicit explanation of the naval rules. Does it cost more than one phase of movement to move aaway from a port to offload in a coastal area in the same sea zone, or is this all one movement? When moving to another sea zone; how is this handled? Is it the case that one move out of port, then to the adjacent sea zone, but remain out to sea for a phase; then are able to disembark troop on the following movement phase to a coastal area of your choosing within the sea zone just entered? Once disembarking troops, does the fleet return on its own to the home port, this movement being included as the final part of the disembarking movement phase? OR Is it the case that the fleets' return is giverned by the same movement process as it took to travel while carrying troops? Other than this bit of clarification on the naval rules, the rules seem watertight; and I a really enjoying this game! De Gaulle - Le Fil de l'épée Alan, SEMPER VICTOR Naval Rules Let's just follow the example : Example: Maxence is with SECONDUS. During the first SECONDUS M/CS of the year 310, Maxence and the two PC Italia units are in zone Italia 4. He moves to zone Italia 6, where the Misenium port box is located (cost of 2 MP). During the second SECONDUS M/CS, they make a naval movement of one zone of the Mare Internum Occidentalis (the movement from the Misenium box to the open sea counts as one), and Maxence and the two PC Italia units land in the Carthago zone (Africa 4). They cannot move before the next M/CS. During the third SECONDUS M/CS, Maxence and the two units may make their land moves and the fleet return to Misenium (movement of one zone of open sea to the Misenium box). Does it cost more than one phase of movement to move away from a port to offload in a coastal area in the same sea zone, or is this all one movement? A Fleet can move from one zone at every M/CS. If it transports units, these units have to be in the port zone of the fleet or adjacent to the seaa zone where the fleet stand at the begining of the M/CS. That mean you cannot combine in a single M/CS a ground and naval movmement. When moving to another sea zone; how is this handled? Is it the case that one move out of port, then to the adjacent sea zone, but remain out to sea for a phase; then are able to disembark troop on the following movement phase to a coastal area of your choosing within the sea zone just entered? There are two ports (one in the west and one in the east) that are considered for fleets as an independant sea zone. The only constraint for a fleet is to be back in its port at the end of each turn (not of each M/CS. Transpored units can be disambarked or embarked in any ground zone adjacent to the sea zone where a fleet stands. Once disembarking troops, does the fleet return on its own to the home port, this movement being included as the final part of the disembarking movement phase? OR Is it the case that the fleets' return is giverned by the same movement process as it took to travel while carrying troops? The return to its own port is a non automatic mouvement, it is done by the same movement process as it took to travel while carrying troops. The fleet as to move back alone (one sea zone per M/CS) before the end of the turn. It is so very important to calculate the number of M/CS available for it and to plan the move. Is it clearer ? joserizal - Oct 6, 2004 4:24 am (#3631 Total: 3637) Frederic or Charles, Just played a few years of Semper Victor and I have a few questions: 1. It what instance would there be two ceasars of Augustuses on both sides? 2. Would you reduce all your units first before eliminating them in combat? 3. In 4.3: Can Non roman units move into other dioceces besides the one they entered in? 4. In the declaration of a civil war. If the Augustus or Ceasar is in the the same zone as the usurper, do they change sides and do units under them change sides too? 5. If a Usurper from the opposing side is also in the same zone as the Usurper who decalred the civil war, does he also change sides? 6. If a usurper changes sides, does he lose is usurper counter? 5. While most of the game was easy to learn, we got really stuck in the Usurpation and Civil war part of the game. Is this correct: A usurpation is only declared during phase c. Civil wars are decalred also on turn c. An excellent game btw. joserizal - Oct 6, 2004 4:42 am (#3632 Total: 3637) Frederic or Charles, Forgot to add: 1. When roman leader enters the game, is he controlled by either player depending on who controls the diocese where he starts in? It what instance would there be two ceasars of Augustuses on both sides? If there are two Augustus (Pprimus and Secondus) and if they both have chosen to designate one extra Augustus and two extra Caesar to prepare their suiccession (3.5.1) Primus can veto some candidates 2. Would you reduce all your units first before eliminating them in combat? Player choice 3. In 4.3: Can Non roman units move into other dioceces besides the one they entered in? Yes, but not further than 5 zones from their home zone 4. In the declaration of a civil war. If the Augustus or Ceasar is in the the same zone as the usurper, do they change sides and do units under them change sides too? 3.6.2 states that the leader choosen for usurpation (throught a stratagem) cannot be located in a zone where a higher level (Caesar or Augustus, if simple leader, Augustus if simple or Caesar) already stand. Then your example cannot occur. 5. If a Usurper from the opposing side is also in the same zone as the Usurper who decalred the civil war, does he also change sides? Same than 4. but obviously not clearly stated in the rules. I will update them. You cannont choose a simple leader in a zone wher ther is already an leader of higher rank and Usuper is higher tha a simple leader. 6. If a usurper changes sides, does he lose is usurper counter? N/A 5. While most of the game was easy to learn, we got really stuck in the Usurpation and Civil war part of the game. Is this correct: A usurpation is only declared during phase c. Civil wars are decalred also on turn c. 3.6.2 state usurpation and following civil war can be declared during phase D or E 6. When roman leader enters the game, is he controlled by either player depending on who controls the diocese where he starts in? That is right Clear enough ? joserizal - Oct 6, 2004 5:58 am (#3634 Total: 3637) Few more questions Can the usurper go to units with no leaders on them and convert them in any situation? If a lone Roman leader moves to a zone with enemy units but with no enemy leaders, can he convert them before he rolls his survival roll? If a ceasar of augustus becomes a Usurper, does he lose his original title? De Gaulle - Le Fil de l'épée Can the usurper go to units with no leaders on them and convert them in any situation? Yes. Explained in 3.6.3 D/ he just has to try and make the check regarding his Political Capacity If a lone Roman leader moves to a zone with enemy units but with no enemy leaders, can he convert them before he rolls his survival roll? Only if he has an Usurper or Guerre Civile (civil war) marker on him: that means only during an usurpation process. If a ceasar of augustus becomes a Usurper, does he lose his original title? Yes (because he is now an "outlaw" but if he succeed he could become Primus or Secondus Let me know the results of your next Semper Victor game (which scenario this time?)
