Pauly Kwon - Apr 28, 2011 2:22 am (#6931 Total: 6939) Eisenhower is responsible for anyone who died in WWII European Theater after November 1944. Overlord Game I think the Overlord game is broken. The Germans simply have to retreat, use virtually all of its PRs to buy replacements, and fill their GFs with new units, and not waste any strength attacking. IMHO, 14 PRs for each turn is too much. That means Germans can ressurect 14 corps for each month providing they don't attack. I think that by that point of time Germans were hard pressed to resurrect even 2 corps per turn. At least a restriction like Dunnigan's Battle for Germany, in which the weakest units are rebuilt first, should be introduced. It is a very strange game, in which Germans get much, much favorable reinforcement rate than both allies combined. Perhaps the designers might have confused it with Rocroi, where the Duc de Conde had said a night of passion will restore all losses in that battle. Craig Ambler - Apr 28, 2011 2:40 am (#6932 Total: 6939) On the Western Front with Marne: 1918 Early on the Germans do get a lot of replacements, which I agree is odd, but you can't just retreat as then the Allies advance and capture your replacement areas and a few good Allied bombing raids can hurt as well. The trick as the Allies is to hit hard very early and get into Hungary and Germany as quickly as possible. Can you rebuild destroyed GF's ? If so,does it cost anything and where would you place a rebuilt GF ? No it is free and you put it back in the Strategic Reserve Box. >3. Can you move after an attack ? No automatic advance after combat if you think about that but if you have Action Points remaining, yes. >4. Does the Patton/Zhukov counter allow #3 to happen? The counter gives a free Action Point, so yes. >5. What are the maximum number of PA's that a single unit can have ? One is free, one is by paying a Resource point and one (or more) with stratagem counters. >6. Can a unit go from a contested zone to an empty enemy zone ? If so, how much would it cost ? No, this is forbidden. From a contested you can only go to a friendly zone or another contested zone. It is true that the German will mainly rebuild dead units with few counterattacks but this is the history... otherwise better playing 1940-41 ! First the German will never get 14 because of the US bombing and second, dead units represent not 100% dead soldiers but desorganization. A lot of authors have pointed how good and fast the Germans were at this time to raise or rebuild new units... But it is true the game was designed with a high level of German replacements. Luc, Many thanks for your time and answers. I just have a follow up question. When a player uses AP's,does he declare all his attacks for all his units and after the results, he can move ? I guess what I am asking is that one doesn't have to do a fight/move sequence, one could move three spaces with the free PA, a PR, and a strategem, right ? Or fight three tines > Also, is the 19 PR track a limit on the number of PR's that can be saved ? Finally, the way I understand the rules is that a GF needs to use a AP for an attack, but to add in the half strength of any other GFs in the same space does not cost an additional AP...correct ? Thanks again ! lucolivier - Apr 28, 2011 6:35 pm (#6935 Total: 6939) Grand Maitre de l'Academie du Wargame Hi John, You are welcome, i'm always happy people play my games There is no sequence or special way to spend the AP. You can move or fight three times if you want (and can, of course). No, the 19 is not a limit... Yes correct, the others GF add half power for free... Western allies have very good for that with 3 allowed in the same area. Thanks, Luc Pauly Kwon - Apr 28, 2011 11:03 pm (#6938 Total: 6939) Eisenhower is responsible for anyone who died in WWII European Theater after November 1944. >First the German will never get 14 because of the US bombing and second, dead units represent not 100% dead soldiers but desorganization. A lot of authors have pointed how good and fast the Germans were at this time to raise or rebuild new units... But the rebuilt or raised new units were of low quality, with increasingly bizarre unit names. I really think the weakest units must be the first units to be built. That is history, and I do think that eliminated German elite units should not be allowed to be rebuilt once the allies control at least one German area. lucolivier - Apr 29, 2011 1:48 am (#6939 Total: 6939) Grand Maitre de l'Academie du Wargame I agree with you, rebuild the weakest or select randomnly the units rebuilt can be an option. But the Elite have to stay as usually they were the last "defenders" of the reich and otherwise the German will never attack... i must admit that tuning both side according to the replacements and number of PR was not an easy task and i'm totally willing to adjust it a bit following your feedbacks. Thanks. Luc
