NAPOLEON'S LAST CAMPAIGN published July,1974 A Strategic level game of the campaigns of 1814 and 1815 in France, Belgium, and Germany. COMPONENTS: Mapboard, Rules Folder, 71 Unit Counters, two TAC charts. GAME SYSTEMS: Area Movement System, Matrix/CCC Combined Combat System. Two complete and distinct games. RULE MODIFICATIONS 1. Section V. To capture a fortress, you must eliminate all intrinsic CP's of the Fort, well as all of those in the defending units present OR achieve result requiring the defender to retreat. 3. Addition to Fortress Rules If a fortress is attacked and has its Intrinsic strength reduced (but not to zero), it continues to function at its reduced strength. However, a fortress's intrinsic strength can only be reduced after all defending CP's are eliminated. 3. Clarification - Fortress' rule A fortress is beseiged whenever there is at least enemy combat unit in the fort's area. If the area contains two fortresses, at least two enemy units must be present for both fortresses to be beseiged (neither is if only one enemy unit is present). Units attacking out of besieged fortresses must attack all units in the area. 4. Addition to IV, C. French units beginning their turn on an area boundary may still force march through an adjacent forest area and into any clear area or area boundary adjacent to the forest area. 5. Combat Rules Addition. Whenever a "no result" occurs on the TAC, the commander whose turn it is must either attack the enemy force in the area or retreat down the lines of communication. The other command has no such restrictions. Lines of communication are identical to lines of supply. 6. Combat Resolution Procedure Addition. No unit may voluntarily be withheld from combat unless defending in a fortress. 7. IV. D. Addition. Command units do not count towards unit concentration. 8. VII, 2. Addition. SP's for over concentration are expended at the end of the Movement Segment. 9. Correction - Replacement Unit Rules. The AC may create the Prussian LW and VI LW corps only. 10. Game length Correction. 1814 lasts 25 turns, 1815 lasts 24 turns. 11. TAC Chart Explanation Addition. The word "factor" means CP, "0" means blank. 1 is substracted from the attacker's die roll if all attacking units crossed the river to attack. 12. Mapsheet Addition. Paris is a fortress, the area of Paris needs to be occupied (not the fortress) for the AC to win. In 1815, the Blucher unit starts in Namur. Hills have no effect on movement or combat. The die is rolled to determine if Napoleon is sick before each battle after TAC cards are selected but before the die is rolled. 13. Combat Rules Correction. Place a period after the word "advance" and capitalise "If" on the last sentence of the first paragraph explaining the pin option. Clarification To Mapboard Ghent borders only on Tour Bergen and Maritime, Tour also borders on Bergen. Mainz does not border on Liege. Clarification To CCC Explanation If, for example a Russian unit with a strength of 1 attacks a French unit with a strngth of 6, the odds would be -1. If the die roll was a 4, the French unit would lose 25% of its strength, some one and a half CPs, rounded upwards to two CPs. The Russian would lose also two CPs, as he must lose an amount equal to 25% of the total losing force. If these were the only units in the battle involved, they would both be removed from play, and four CPs added to the French Replacement Pool, and ten CPs added to the Russian replacement pool. Of course, if there were more than one unit per side in a battle, the owning commander could designate which of his units were to suffer the losses. Clarification To Victory Conditions Allied units occupying Paris at the end of the Game for victory purposes must be in supply. Clarification To CCC Note Subtract 1 from die roll only if all attacking units crossed river to attack.
