Paul Rohrbaugh - Nov 21, 2011 2:17 pm (#15 Total: 15) Call sign, Tiger! >This is a cool-looking little game. You get air-to-air, strafing, bombing and balloon busting in two pages of rules! The counters are nice and the mounted ones cut apart easily. I especially like where the little airplane icon on the altitude markers gets progessively smaller as you go from Very Low to Very High. Thank you very much! I was very pleased with the reception the first game using this design received, Showtime Hanoi (Pocket Battle game published by Against the Odds that you can get for free with any purchase or subscription). Bruce Yearian's graphics have certainly taken this WWI version to a whole new height! >1) If the Allied player takes the first action, how do you know how many APs he has to spend? Just draw cards until you get a red one? Draw cards from the deck until you get a Ace through 10 in the starting player's suit. Put the all of the other cards back in the deck and reshuffle. I thought I had this in the rules but now realize it got left out. I'll update the addenda file (sigh!). >2) AA Combat: Are the High/Very High and Low/Very Low modifiers +2,-2 (rules) or +1,-1 (map)? Arghhh! Another bit of addenda. The modifiers are +1, -1 (map is correct, rule is in error). >3) Wind Combat Modifiers (AA): Do these apply only if the target is facing into the wind? Or if the wind is behind the target (blowing towards the AA unit)? I wasn't sure what the intent of this modifier was. . . It is if the target is against (flying into) the wind. That is what the map says. >An example of play would be good I have not looked at it yet but I think examples would help. Also you could easily add photo recon and recon missions quite well. There is an illustrated example of play for movement as part of the rules. >Bloody April would be excellent in particular if you had a campaign element. I have a full-sized game on the April 1917 campaign (Cruelest Month) that uses my Air War Series design (earlier titles are Chennault's First Fight and Operation Cartwheel). I was going to make up an expansion game for FE set during the Verdun Campaign but one for Arras can definitely be added to the "to do" list!
