Magonga - Jul 13, 2004 9:06 am (#191 Total: 192) Game Questions Hi, we just finished a 5 player campaign game and really enjoyed the experience and playability of the game. We have a few questions though: 1) Those Med islands... Do they have "implied" ports? In particular, it was a drag for the Italian player to station forces in Sicily and not be able to pick them on the way to an amphibious invasion. Also... If Greece or when France falls to the Axis do their islands automatically become Axis? Specifically, Crete and Corsica, respectively, I believe. 2) Failed Amphibious assaults... Do the excess troops waiting on ships get eliminated if the invasion fails? These would be the troops waiting to land to fill up the bridgehead stacking privileges, but did not count toward the assault. 3) Bridgeheads...do they also function as a port if there is not one present in the area/zone? We didn't play this way. Is there a shelve life for Bridgeheads? 4) Delaying Lend Lease through Persia. Allies lending aid to Russia through Persia normally takes two turns. Can the Russian player decide to delay receipt of the aid (keep it in Persia) until needed. This happened when the Allies sent the aid so that it would arrive at the end of a Winter turn - we let the Russia player delay receipt of the aid to the next turn (turn 3 of the aid distribution). 5) The rules state that joint forces in an air battle have to take "equal" losses. We couldn't find anything on what to in a land battle so we left it up to the players to decide. Was that correct? Thanks! Nice game. We will be playing again. We have a few questions though: Hi Magonga, thanks for the kind words - glad you enjoyed the game. 1) Those Med islands... Do they have "implied" ports? No. In particular, it was a drag for the Italian player to station forces in Sicily and not be able to pick them on the way to an amphibious invasion. No, Sicily does not have a port. In playtesting, we discovered it was too easy for the Allies to reinforce Sicily if there was a port there. It's not because we were trying to limit the Italian offensive capability. Also... If Greece or when France falls to the Axis do their islands automatically become Axis? Specifically, Crete and Corsica, respectively, I believe. No. Zones remain in the control of the last side to occupy them with ground forces, or if never occupied, on the side of the original country and/or allies. 2) Failed Amphibious assaults... Do the excess troops waiting on ships get eliminated if the invasion fails? These would be the troops waiting to land to fill up the bridgehead stacking privileges, but did not count toward the assault. No, they would return to their port of embarkation. 3) Bridgeheads...do they also function as a port if there is not one present in the area/zone? We didn't play this way. No. Is there a shelve life for Bridgeheads? No. Bridgeheads can remain there indefinitely, or until an enemy ground unit enters the zone, at which time it would be removed from the board. Lend lease "in the pipeline" can be delayed as long as desired, but it is choice of the country whose fleets are carrying the WPPs (Britain or US), not the Russian player. 5) The rules state that joint forces in an air battle have to take "equal" losses. We couldn't find anything on what to in a land battle so we left it up to the players to decide. Was that correct? Yes, that is correct. Thanks for the great questions - looking forward to hearing more on how your game went if you get a chance.
