Thanks in advance for your time... Brian Train - 09:42am Nov 18, 1999 PST (#107 of 150) "He was wont so to speak plain and to the purpose, as an honest man and a soldier." Brian, a half-dozen quick BATTLE FOR CHINA questions for 'ya: ** my answers set off like this *** 1) Could I please get an example from you for 5.3.1 (Affecting Foreign Attitudes), 'Procedure' paragraph, (which is kinda confusing to me)? ** Sure. I did have an example for this in Arriba Espana, but neglected to do this in Batlte For China. Same system. Ok, imagine China wants to get the USSR on side. He wants a +2 DRM on the influence roll, so spends 2d6 PSP (rolls 2d6, a 10, oooh that hurt!) and then rolls 1d6 and adds 2 for the influence. Luckily he rolls a 5, plus 2 is 7, so he moves the USSR marker one box closer to providing support (i.e., to the right).*** 6.1.1 and 6.3 give CCP a 15% and 10% replacement rates; I assume these can be combined before dropping fractions? ** No; these are separate operations and the phrase "drop all fractions" when calculating appears in both 6.1.1 and 6.3. So take your 15% and drop all fractions, then take your 10% and drop all fractions, and the total of the two is your EP to spend.*** 3) 6.6 Does a unit need to be in supply to increase its Cadre Level? **Yes. This is implied in 12.5 since it requires that the unit "receive" EP, but is not directly stated. Improving the Cadre Level models taking extra time and trouble with a unit - reinforcing it with better men, giving them better equipment and/or more ammunition, hard training - lots of things but in general things that can only be done when your logistical and command networks are working.*** 4) 8.2.1 details Chinese Movement Limits; I assume Japan has unlimited movement (unless weather restricted or into an enemy regular area) due to their better transport capability? **Yes.*** 5) 8.5 states that IJA can only Naval React 5 units into a City due to stacking...I thought City stacking was one BG (8.1.1)? **You're right, this is inconsistent as it reads. Think of those Naval Reacting units as forming a special and temporary BG that exists only for the Counterattack Phase - its actual status doesn't really matter since the Organization Phase follows soon after, and you'll be reorganizing the units in the province. I don't expect that this would actually be a common tactic as it's expensive and has a limited use, but it did happen in Shanghai in 1937 so I thought it ought to be possible in the game.*** 6) Could you expand on 12.5 Out of Supply effects, especially in regards to "...determine eligibility for receiving EP...and in the Recovery Phase"? ** Sure. Essentially, you judge supply for a unit at any time it matters for the unit. In the Strategic Phase, a unit must be in supply to "receive" EP, that is have EP spent on it - this includes raising the Cadre Level, replenishing to a higher CF (IJA only), or converting a unit. And don't forget, you can always place a BG in supply by spending an extra EP. A Corps with a +1 marker which converts into an army will lose the +1 marker (a change from Arriba Espana).
