La Rochefoucauld Can you construct fortifications in a hex where there is no friendly unit? Yes, the only requisit is that the fortified hex be in, or adjacent to, a friendly town/city hex. A friendly unit is needed only if the fort is to be constructed in an enemy ZoC. I am not sure whether you meant this to apply only after retreat or destruction of the occupying units in combat, or at all times. A fort is destroyed after its hex is emptied of friendly units. This generally occurs after a combat retreat or elimination. But it may also occur through a voluntary movement - provided the hex is in an enemy ZoC (planned withdrawal : this is an addition to the rule). On the other hand, an empty fort not in an enemy ZoC is not automatically destroyed. He is merely waiting for his garrison. Mike Smith - 12:47pm Mar 1, 2002 PST (#1831 of 1840) Playing: Barbarossa 1941 Starting another solitaire trial of Barbarossa tonight using your rulings Jean-Claude. Can you clarify the victory point for the Finnish occupation zone ? Are the hex numbers listed (1204 - 1803) correct, because by 12.2 the Finns can't clear this area unless the Soviets leave a ZOC free way in, or unless they get help from German units transported to Finland by sea, or from German units coming up from the south. This may well be intentional, and may indeed be quite historical for 1941, but I just wanted to make sure. Mike Smith - 01:06pm Mar 1, 2002 PST (#1832 of 1840) Playing: Barbarossa 1941 Incidently, for anyone setting up Barbarossa 1941 you will find two German 34th Corps counters, and no 38th Corps counter as called for by the Army Group North setup. The 34th Corps reinforcement counter for Army Group South is the correct one (I think). The 34th Corps counter colour-coded orange is incorrect, and should be used to stand in for the missing 38th Corps. Hopefully we will get a correction counter in the next issue. La Rochefoucauld Finnish occupation zone These are the finnish occupation zone hexes : 1203, 1204, 1302, 1303, 1402, 1501, 1502, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, 1701, 1702, 1703, 1803. 1/ If totally empty of soviet units at the end of the game, Axis gets 1 VP. (rule 13). 2/ Finnish units may not move out of these hexes into a soviet ZoC in Soviet Union. (rule 12.2) 3/ They may attack through the border but not further. (rule 12.2) Jean-Claude Bésida - 03:45am Mar 2, 2002 PST (#1837 of 1840) Nous élevons la gloire des uns pour abaisser celle des autres. Use 34.AK (AG Mitte) instead of 38.AK (AG Nord) in the meantime. Presumably a unit can only make one successful reaction in a phase. Yes. Can a German mech. stack in Soviet ZOC at the start of its exploitation phase in Turn 1 make an overrun attack? Yes Is the automatic step loss for attacking a Major city taken twice if you roll twice because of a high amplitude combat? No the automatic step loss is 1 step loss per combat, not per dice. Panzers and aviation attack bonus - can only the Germans (Panzers...) benefit from this? Yes. Axis mobile units don't benefit of from the combined air+panzer bonus. Can Axis allied units attacking in turn 1 without a German unit benefit from the +1 surprise bonus (rules say "Allemand en attaque" - do I take this literally)? Yes. Only attacks led by a german unit benefit from this bonus. By the way, about fort removal, here is another precision. Forget the previous wording of the rules, as it could be ambiguous, and replace rule "La fortification de campagne est automatiquement détruite une fois que son hex ne comporte plus d’unité amie." by "La fortification de campagne est automatiquement détruite lorsqu’une unité terrestre ennemie entre dans son hex." It roughly translates as "A field fort is automatically destroyed when an enemy ground unit enters the hex." and is simpler.
