Rob Citino - 06:27am Mar 7, 2001 PST (#4070 of 4071) Just Finished Playing: Dixie Here are the "Attila: Scourge 'o God" questions that I sent XTR in November of 1998, plus XTR's answers. Rules Questions for Attila: Q. Regarding heroic leaders. Are they really checked for casualties after every step in which the unit they're stacked with rolled the dice (or had dice rolled against it)? That's what rule 10.20 states. A. Yes. Q. Rule 10.5 ("Field Combat Procedure") lists a step 4, "Heroic Leader Casualty Step." Does Step 4 simply refer to the already wounded heroic leaders discussed in 10.20 (who roll at the end of each round for another casualty)? A. No. Please see the last paragraph of rule 10.21 and 10.26. Q. Regarding attrition die rolls. Do Roman units in a besieged city have to roll for attrition? It certainly makes sense. But according to rule 12.3 ("Roman Side Attrition"), Roman units that are in unpillaged cities (or their surrounding areas) do not have to roll for attrition, and besieged cities are unpillaged cities. There is a DRM on the attrition table for units in a besieged city, however, implying that such units roll for attrition. Reading further in 12.3, Roman units in a devastated area must always roll for attrition, even if they're in an unpillaged city. A. Please read and heed the second sentence of rule 12.3. If the area they are in is pillaged, then Roman units there must ALWAYS check for attrition, even if there is still an unpillaged city within that area. Q. Was the intent of the design (if you can answer this one) to force the Hun to devastate the area surrounding a city in order to get the units in the city to begin rolling for attrition? That's the way the rules currently read (or at least that's the way I read 'em--I could be missing something). A. Yes After reading XTR's responses, I was still not sure about leader casualties. Roll for 'em after every step in which they fired ort were fired at, or roll for 'em once during each round (during the Heroic Leader Casualty Step)? The reponse to my second question directed me to 10.21 and 10.26, but those rules did not seem to answer the question I posed.
