Hello, This is the latest errata for "Eagles of the Empire", Volume I BORODINO. Thanks Mark Searle GamesUSA m.searle1@genie.geis.com MarkSearle@aol.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Errata Follows =-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Eagles of the Empire, Vol I, BORODINO Errata as of Jan 5, 1995 MAP ERRATA: 1. French OB on Map: IV Corps, 13th Division (Delz) (correction) The French OB shows Delzon's Division (the 13th) to have five (5) steps, with the last step a small unit. This should read six (6) steps, with the last step a small unit. 2. French OB on Map: IV Corps, 14th Division (Brour) (correction) The French OB shows Broussier's Division (the 14th) to have four (4) steps, with the last step a small unit. This should read five (5) steps, with the last step a small unit. 3. Despite a change in color, the Kalatsha is a stream along its entire course (from 160 to 003). 4. Area 163; the last word in the line is "area". 5. The Boundry between 075 and 074. A dotted boundry line was omitted between areas 075 and 074. This is a dried up brook boundary. The dried up brook should be used as the area boundary 6. French OB on Map: The Old Guard has five (5) steps of which the last two (2) are small units. 7. Mapsheet Repeat of Rule [25.3] (Marshal Murat) (correction) Mapsheet should read I and III corps, not I and II corps. 8. Mapsheet Russian Order of Battle (addition) Add to Left Wing under General Gortchakov, the Moscow and Smolensk Militia. COUNTER ERRATA: 1. III Corps Cavalry Unit 2. (correction) The French III Corps Cavalry Unit 2, the "14th Lt", is a lancer unit, the symbol and bonus on its front is correct. The back of the counter and the map OoB is incorrect. 2) French III Corp, horse artillery unit 3, and IV Corp, horse artillery unit 3 shows a strength of 1 But has 2 cannon symbols. Usually the unit strength and the number of cannon symbols are the same. In this and all cases the printed strength is correct. 3. The French Young Guard "A" and "B" units. (correction) While correcting a unrelated problem at the at last minute, we accidently dropped the blue field behind the Young Guard "A" and "B" units. These traitorous units now have a green field behind them. Do not be fooled! They are still French! 4. Russian Cavalry Units. (item-of-note) The gold-yellow strip behind the triangles of the second Russian cavalry units row was lost. The strip was decorative. 5. ACTIVATED markers. (item-of-note) Due to a computer graphics glitch, the black shadow behind the word "ACTIVATED" on countersheet 2 turned white resulting in a slightly blurred look. Players who send in their registration cards will be notified of the availability of corrected counters. 6. Russian HQ Commander Yermolev. (correction) The spelling used on this counter should be "Yermolev", not "Yermolov". 7. (Clairification) French IV Corps 13th and 14th Division's. It was decided early on to maintain the light blue color band for the whole of IV Corps. This has lead some to comment that the 13th and 14th divisions where not allied troops but composed of wholly French forces. This is correct and we could have used the darker blue bands for these two units, but decided not to. STANDARD RULES ERRATA: 1. The Combat Results Table in the Standard Rule Book is INCORRECT. The Combat Results Table on the Map, on the box and in the charts is CORRECT. Do not use the one in the Standard Rule Book. 2. [6.63] Leaders in a suppressed Headquarters Any leaders in the HQ at the time of suppression check for elimination following the rules of 7.31 and 7.32, depending upon how the HQ was suppressed. If not eliminated, the leader is placed two areas away from the suppressed HQ, but no closer that two areas to any combat unit. If the leader cannot be placed within these restrictions it reappears with the HQ at the line of communication road, during a later turn. [7.3] Leader Elimination (Change) Leaders may be eliminated during assault, charge, or bombardment. Leaders in a HQ that was suppressed check for elimination according to the manor in which the HQ was suppressed (by assault, charge, or bombardment). 3. 11.18 states that a slope boundary blocks line of sight for artillery bombardment unless the artillery unit is a rise directly behind the slope. However, the reciprocal situation is also a legal line of sight; an artillery unit at ground level can also bombard a unit on a rise, through a slope boundry. 4. (Correction) There are two Sections Numbered 16.0. Page 12, Section 16.0, Designer's Notes, should be Section 17.0. 5. 14.5 and the Terrain Effects Chart list the artillery bombardment modifier as -2 for both cultivated and marsh areas. 11.16, #3 lists them as being -1. Rule 11.16 is correct. 14.5 and the Terrain Effects Chart should be changed. 6. Combat modifiers should read; Where otherwise uncrossable, attacks across a bridge: atkr's str halved, other terrain as applicable. (clarification) Trails on the TEC card have a "-" which is contrary to the standard rules. This was intended as a change to the standard rules. The trails in the part of Russia where virtually useless to any but a single person walking along them. There only effect is accounted for under [21.7] Fords. They are shown for historical interest. 10. (Correction) 11.3, 2.Morale. The next to the last sentence should read: If there are two equal sets of strength points, then choose the lower morale value. (better wording) Change the first sentence to read; When a player elects to retreat units as a result of combat, all affected units must immediately be moved one area from the contested area they were in and not into an enemy controlled area. 18. 6.2 Command Status: (change) The words "either" and "or 2-1" should be deleted in the last sentence of the second paragraph. These sentence are references to the incorrect CRT on page 9. x. Page 3 Example. The sentence: "General Tuchlov does have an initiative rating and can attempt to place III Corps in command during the command phase." After "and" add "because he is not staked with Baggavout". x. QUESTIONS & ANSWERS: Q) Does the Russian general Tutchkov really set up back there with Bagration (that leaves III Corps automatically Out Of Command, since his radius is '1') ??? A) Yup... Sometimes it's tough being the Russians :-) Not only does Tuchkov set up back with Bagration leaving III Corp out of command, but old Bagration himself is out of command also. . . Yup... Sometimes it's REALLY tough being the Russians :-) Q) Cultivated areas cost 2 mp to enter during Rain [14.5]; infantry can only move 1 during Rain [23.4]; can infantry enter a cultivated area during Rain, other than by road/trail movement? A) The philosophy on movement has always been if you don't have the movement points, you don't move. There is no automatically being able to move at least one area just because . . . Q) Exactly which cavalry units can Murat command. A) Murat can command up to three cavalry forces at any one time (the activation roll result would have had to be "Activate Three French Forces" for this to happen). There are five different cavalry forces that Murat can choose from though. They are the Ic,IIc,IIIc,IVc cavalry corps. In addition there is the individual cavalry units from the French I & III army corps. Any or all of these cavalry units from the French I & III army corps may be combined to form an additional cavalry force which Murat can command. From: Jonathan Gingerich Subject: Games USA Borodino errata I want to call to your attention that the original rules to this game have been replaced by those included in Games USA Friedland, and these answer such fundamental questions as "when do generals move?"
