Now I'm forwarding them to you. --Alan Emrich --------------------- Forwarded message: MY COMMENTS ARE IN CAPITALS--YOU CAN POST THEM. JOSEPH: I recently acquired Cybernaut (Competive Edge issue 11's game), and searched through old rec.games.board posts via DejaNews.com looking for errata. I came across Jon Compton's official erratum: "The reference to the [Operations Point] table should have been deleted. It costs an ops point to move an address, and it costs one for the netrunner to bring a piece of software online." Gary J. Robinson followed this up by asking several other questions, which were never answered: >1. At the start of a Netrun all the ice and control files will be face >down. The rules (VII.B.2) state that the NSA player gets a number of Ops >equal to "the number of Control and face-up Ice cyberchits currently in >Cyberspace." Thus, presumably the NSA player has Ops points equal to >his number of Control files. > The description under "NSA Files" however says >that "For each face-up Control file currently in play in Cyberspace, the NSA >receives one Operations point" Under this wording, the NSA has zero Ops >points at the start of a Netrun because the Control files are all face >down. So, which is correct, the rule or the NSA Files description? THE RULES, I.E., YOU GET ONE OPS POINT PER CONTROL FILE, FACE UP OR DOWN. THIS REPRESENTS THE BASIC CONTROL ABILITY OF THE NSA. AS ICE IS ACTIVATED THE SYSTEM IS ALERTED. A similar conflict (not noted by Mr. Robinson) arises regarding the NSA player's regeneration of destroyed Cyberchits: rule VII.H.4. states that one destroyed chit is regenerated if ANY Control files are on the board, while the Control file description states that one destroyed chit is regenerated for EACH Control file on the board. SHOULD BE ONE PER CONTROL FILE. >2. Can the NSA player voluntarily flip over face-down chits other than >Tracers (such as Ice, to get more Ops points)? NO. >3. Since the NSA player can rearrange all cyberchits upon logoff, doesn't >this make the Backdoor and Xmute chits worthless, since the NSA can >instantly place the appropriate countermeasures on top of the >Backdoor/Xmuted cyberchits? The NSA can guard Back Door chits and the Xmute chit as he sees fit(along with other chits he values - this is covered in Jon Compton's strategy guide in the magazine). However, doing so will strip his defenses from other areas (the Netrunner can always come in through the regular addresses/GAPs). >4. Upon logoff, "Place all Netrunner Cyberchits - except 'Back Door' - in >the Netrunner container." (Rule VII.H.3.) This can't mean what it says. >Does this rule affect >a) Netrunner Cyberchits belonging to Cybernauts who did not Netrun? >b) Netrunner Cyberchits which are in the Holding Box for the Netrunning >Cybernaut but which were not used during the Netrun? >c) Netrunner Cyberchits which were used in a Cyberstrike by the Ghost, but >which are passive and thus were never "brought online" with an Ops point? THIS REFERS ONLY TO CHITS ON THE CYBERSPACE DISPLAY! >5. Can Active Netrunner Cyberchits (example: Virus) which have not been >"brought online" still participate in a Cyberstrike? Can they be brought >online, move independently, and later jump back into the Cybernaut's >holding box (while sharing the same square) and resume "offline" status, >moving with the Ghost for free? NO. >6. When the Netrunner brings an active or stealth Cyberchit "online" does >it get to move immediately or does dropping it in the same address cost a >point by itself? Placing it in the same square as the Ghost is the reason for the Ops Point cost of bringing it online. Moving it costs (another) one point per square. CORRECT
