From: bruce webb Subject: Speaking of AH 1914 errata Well, I bought this game new for $7.98 I noticed. I did write to AH regarding some problems I noted. I got some answers, but none specific regarding the setup errors. I did get a form letter attached to the Second Edition changes which was signed by: James F Dunnigan, Director, Research and Design, The Avalon Hill Company. The answer I got to all the conflicting typos on counters/setup charts etc was "Humble apologies corrections being made." Right. :-) The Eastern Front Rule had a lot of inconsistencies and the answer I got was to use the ones on the mobilization chart as a standard. I'm not sure where these came from, but I have changed two results on the CRT. One is on the 3-6 Defense Factors at 2-1 odds I changed to a 0 0 result. The second is the same charts at 3-1 odds was changed to a 0 1 result. The second edition changes were: Entry of Allies into Belgium: The Allies may not cross the Belgiean border until two moves after the Germans either destroy the Liege forts or cross the Meuse south of Liege. Rivers & Rough Terrain: Effect of Movement for Rivers and Effect on Combat for Rivers, Rough Terrain, and/or Forests may be left out of the Introductory, Standard, and Advanced Games. This is advisable when the players are of equal ability or when the Allied player is the more experienced. Delete the first two paragraphs under "1914 Combat Results Table" on the front of the Combat Results Table. The more I look at the answers to my questions, it would appear to me that although the letter said one of the staff answered my questions, it might have been JFD himself. I noted that it seemed better (less chance of loss) to attack fortresses with fewer factors to which I got the reply, "Right, it took the generals in 1914 four years to find that out."
